Schedule: Full Time (40 hours per week)

Shift : Mon – Fri, 7:00a – 3:30p, Weekend Call – Approx once every 13 weeks

The role you’ll contribute:

The Point of Care technologist is a medical laboratory scientist who is responsible for assisting with the coordination and oversight of hospital Point of Care Testing (POCT) (waived and non-waived) in accordance with regulations. Depending on campus and department, various pre-and post-analytical work processes are included in the work duties customarily performed; on-call hours may also be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION:

REQUIRED:

• In licensure states, Laboratory Licensure in appropriate specialty(ies) for the department or location assignmentas applicable to the state-OR –

• In non-licensure states, must hold a national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist such as ASCP, AAB, or AMT unless grandfathered per state requirement

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

• Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, biological sciences, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Two years of technical experience including a minimum of one year in a POCT environment Strong organizational skills.

· Ability and willingness to work independently as well as in a team environment

· Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays if the need arises; on-call hours may also be required.• Knowledge of POC and laboratory rules and regulations

· Ability to communicate effectively with non-lab departments.

· Must be able to read, write, speak, and have good comprehension of conversational english

· Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office

The value you’ll bring to the team:

Maintains self-competencies required to help oversee the POCT program.• Ensures all testing personnel have required training and competency assessment maintained and appropriately documented.• Serves as teacher, coach, and mentor for Point of Care testing clinicians.• Participates in the evaluation of new POC instrumentation and procedures. Assists with data collection and special projects, as assigned. Assists in the documentation and submission of required laboratory, departmental, and staff statistics/reports.• Maintains current analyzer ongoing validation, correlation, troubleshooting and maintenance. • Follows laboratory policies and procedures; provides input on POCT policies and procedures. • Participates in, and has knowledge of, laboratory and hospital Performance Improvement activities.• Adheres to hospital and laboratory regulatory requirements.• Helps prepare and maintain documentation for laboratory accreditation for ongoing inspection readiness.• Participates in inventory control and supply stocking.• Provides orientation and training to new employees and medical technology students as needed, under the direction of the lab leadership. May act as a preceptor when teaching new staff and students when assigned. Appropriately documents orientation and training of new employees and medical technology students.

• Follows appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling. Demonstrates understanding and adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. • Performs various support activities to facilitate operation of POC department.• May assess competencies according to Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulstions.

· Maintains quality controls practices in the Laboratory.

· Performs other duties as assigned
