Weber State University Internship - Adventure Programs & Challe in OGDEN, Utah

Summary:This is a part-time,28-hour-a-week internship lasting approximately one year. A potential housing stipend is included,depending on meeting the requirements. The Intern Adventure Programs & Challenge Course will assist the Outdoor Program Coordinator in running a comprehensive Outdoor Program and will directly oversee the Adventure Program and Challenge Course staff.Responsibilities:Area Management:In collaboration with the Coordinator,organize,manage,and supervise the daily operations of the Challenge Course and ongoing and upcoming trips,clinics,and programsAssist in the growth and development of the Outdoor ProgramManage program equipment inventoryTraining and working with Student ManagersPlan and implement staff trainingHire and train new staffSchedule all hourly staffPromote and schedule all Challenge Course programsArea Specific Responsibilities:Challenge Course: Take a leadership role in the Challenge Course. Work under the direction of the Coordinator to provide experiential learning training for outdoor program staff and overall program development/delivery for challenge course-based programs. Tailor experiences to the goals and capabilities of the clients,with a focus on facilitating team building. Work closely with the marketing coordinator to advertise the challenge course to attract new clients.Adventure Programs: Work as part of the Outdoor Program team to instruct and lead participants in various outdoor-related outings,clinics,or classes. Become familiar with and adhere to the OP Procedures,OP Standards of Practice,and other appropriate materials. Take responsibility for the safety of participants,equipment,vehicles,and other resources. Establish the necessary relationship with participants to develop familiarity with their skill development and/or recreational experience. Initiate appropriate rescue response and/or the administration of first aid during course-related emergencies. Perform other duties and specific course responsibilities as assigned. The position reports to the Outdoor Program Coordinator.Administrative Duties:Updating equipment,policies,and procedure manualsRecruit,hire,train,schedule,and supervise hourly staffAnalytical skills to identify problems,assess alternatives,and render consistent,logical decisionsHold regular office hoursSchedule all hourly staffOther Responsibilities:Attend all required trainings and meetingsMaintain the highest level of proficiency in facility policies,emergency response,and EAPAssist with all staff training,including but not limited to new hires,seasonal training,and activity-specific training.Additional responsibilities as assignedEvening/weekend work responsibilities as required
