Kaiser Permanente National Cancer Program Coordinator in Oakland, California

Job Summary:

Kaiser Permanente National Cancer Program Coordinator supports the Kaiser Permanente National Cancer Expert Review Program and Kaiser Permanente National Cancer Second Opinion Program. Provides consultation, leadership and coordination to physicians, patients, and stakeholders on matters related Kaiser Permanente Cancer Program stakeholders include but are not limited to the National and Regional Leadership teams and functions. Provides quality, performance improvement and coordination to Cancer Care Program projects and initiatives using the Clinical Quality Strategy, thereby supporting KP in achieving its performance targets. Represents Quality and Patient Safety perspectives and activities on an organizational level, synthesizing a variety of results, initiatives and collaborative efforts toward effective quality program goals. Applies professional Quality and Performance Improvement theories in facilitating diverse groups, delivering public presentations, and providing work team leadership.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with regional Coordinators to create and maintain physician schedules for Cancer Expert Review Program coverage.

• Tracks requests for Expert review and collaborates with regional Coordinators to assign individual cases for Expert review.

• Collaborates with regional Coordinators to ensure that physicians have appropriate clinical information to review each case and complete expert review cases within designated time (within two business days or five business day in case of multidisciplinary case review).

• Administers questionnaires to referring physicians and experts every 6-12 months to assess the quality of the service and opportunities for improvement.

• Ensures that physicians have appropriate clinical information to review each case.

• Connects with patients and prepares them for a second opinion visit with KP Cancer Experts.

• Conducts clinical reviews based on established treatment criteria.

• Reviews utilization patterns, identifies trends and problems areas for special studies.

• Assists in collecting and assimilating clinical data to enhance the quality of services.

• Reports and investigates unusual occurrences and questions inappropriate decisions based on their professional expertise.

• Collaborates with regional Coordinators to ensure that each second opinion visit is completed within designated time and completes nursing documentation.

• Collaborate with physicians and key stakeholders to ensure licensing required for 2nd opinion Program.

• Practices a high-level of integrity and honesty in maintaining patient confidentiality.

• Other responsibilities as needed.

• Must be willing to obtain additional nursing state licensures as needed

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

• One (1) year of nursing experience, preferably in oncology, navigation or case management

Education

• Bachelor's degree in related field (such as management, organization development, health services administration) required

License, Certification, Registration

• Registered Nurse License (Georgia)

Additional Requirements:

• Familiarity with electronic medical records

• Familiarity with virtual meetings technology (such as Teams)

TRAVEL & JOB LOCATION:

Travel as required (approximately [ 5%] of time)

Position will be located in Oakland, California but is remote in nature

Must be available during PST

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

General office environment: Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking for up to 25% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)

• Master’s Degree in directly related field

• Ability to work as a consultant, facilitator, and colleague with other stakeholders, physicians and Kaiser Perm nente staff at all levels of the organization.

• Knowledge and/or experience with accreditation standards, and state and federal regulations.

• Advanced knowledge (broad expertise or unique knowledge) of policies, practices, and systems.

• Ability to develop advanced concepts, techniques, and standards.

• Ability to develop new programs based on professional principles and theories.

• Viewed as functional expert in field within Kaiser Permanente.

• Ability to apply advanced principles, theories, and concepts.

• Ability to contribute to the development of innovative principles and ideas.
