Nurse Shift Manager – Nights 12hrs shift

As an ED Nurse Leader at Dignity Health- Northridge Hospital Medical Center now part of CommonSpirit Health the largest non-profit health system in the United States you will lead the staff who are the first touchpoint to the people in our community who come to us for care.

As part of our ED team you will partner with board-certified Physicians Registered Nurses Advance Midlevel Providers and other specially trained staff to provide excellent care and of course human kindness to anyone seeking emergency medical treatment. We are the only Level II ACS-certified Trauma Center for adults and pediatrics in the San Fernando Valley. We are a Comprehensive Stroke STEMI Pediatric Medical Center and EDAP certified Emergency Department.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to and ensures compliance with Hospital/departmental legal safety environmental infection control and regulatory agency standards and the Patient's Bill of Rights.

  • Develops revises and ensures compliance with Hospital/departmental policies procedures standards of patient care professional practice acts and Quality Assessment and Improvement Program.

  • Functions as a role model by providing leadership expertise and serves as a clinical resource for assigned areas and for other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

  • Provides expert direction and support for clinical service areas while contributing to the setting of quality patient care standards and outcomes based on current nursing research and customer satisfaction.

  • Assumes responsibility for planning implementing and evaluating patient care outcomes to ensure optimum utilization of Continuous Quality Improvement methodology while maximizing utilization of all available resources.

  • Monitors and evaluates productivity standards to ensure compliance with Hospital/departmental budgetary guidelines.

  • Assures appropriate patient to staff ratios by maintaining flexibility in the allocation of human resources based on pre determined skill/competency levels patient acuity age of the population served and cultural and ethnic diversities.

  • Assures continuity of care by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health care team patient family and significant others.

  • Ensures appropriate selection of patient care equipment and products based on market research and current nursing trends.

  • Assures compliance with all related Human Resources policies procedures and programs.

  • Advises chairs or participates in Hospital/nursing committees and meetings as needed.

  • Identifies needs and contributes to the planning of staff development and educational opportunities for members of the interdisciplinary care team.

  • Works with Director in developing implementing and monitoring departmental goals and objectives which are consistent with the organization's strategic business plan.

  • Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients families visitors hospital staff and medical staff while maintaining confidentiality of patient information.

  • Assures program content is based appropriately on acuity diagnosis conditions and desired outcomes

  • Assures services are based appropriately on acuity diagnosis patient stability and desired outcomes.

  • Uses interventions substantiated by research and clinical protocols to develop inpatient programs.

  • Works with nursing team to set realistic goals for patients in relationship to current and potential capabilities and available resources.

  • Documents and assesses program components and identifies problems. Formulates recommendations to enhance clinical quality of care.

  • Works with Director in developing product line strategies and initiatives.

  • Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of care for a defined patient population.

  • Assess designs and evaluates the clinical plan of care across the continuum.

  • Reviews patient stay for on going appropriateness of continued stay acuity or decision to move patient along the continuum.

  • Dialogs with physician team concerning changes in the plan of care and discharge planning.

  • Identifies high volume DRGs within the patient population. Develops and implements Best Practices.

  • In conjunction with Human Resources and Clinical Director responsible for all aspects of Human Resource development including hiring coaching counseling and discipline terminations for assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Acts as a resource for all aspects of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) for employees and medical staff.

  • Accesses network and effectively utilizes electronic applications (e.g. e-mail LMS T.E.A.M etc.) on a daily basis.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (e.g., ADN) required and actively pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or other-related field (e.g., BSN/BBA/BHA)

  • Minimum 2-year recent Emergency Department experience

  • Valid California Registered Nurse License

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.

  • ENPC within 90 days of hire

  • TNCC within six months of hire

  • Current AHA BLS card required.

  • Current LA City Fire Card within 90 days of hire required.

  • MICN preferred

  • PALS and ENPC required within 90 days of hire and maintained thereafter.

Pay Range

$49.40 - $74.72 /hour
