Roper St. Francis EMS Educator - LifeLink Transition Clinic - North Charleston in North Charleston, South Carolina

Job Summary :

Responsible for administering the Continuing Education Program (CEP) for Lifelink and ensuring compliance. Coordinates the Lifelink orientation process, identifies training needs, and develops instruction aids and performance improvement plans. Develops and maintains up to date protocols in conjunction with the Medical Control Physician. Maintains training records and ensures all staff certifications are current. Ensures department compliance with Lifelink policies and State EMS statutes and regulations. Covers Paramedic shifts when needed and/or rides with staff to evaluate performance. Participates in State EMS committee meetings. Assists Clinical Manager with day-to-day operational duties.

Minimum Qualifications :

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP). Critical Care Certification preferred.

Experience : At least 5 years of work experience as a Paramedic which must have included at least one year of teaching experience.

Licensure/Certification: Certification as EMT-P or Paramedic in South Carolina and National Registry required. Must have current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider and ACLS. Valid SC driver’s license. NRP, State Certified Instructor Methodology, CEP Instructor, Critical Care Certification preferred.

Knowledge/Skills: Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to organize, plan, and conduct EMS education. Understanding of all State and Local EMS statutes and Regulations.

Contacts: Physicians, coworkers, and patients. Contact involves dealing with sick people and servicing a patient population from birth to end of life.

Work Demands/Environment :

Frequent sitting. Frequently requires long periods of working at a computer. Intermittent walking, standing, stooping, bending. May require lifting or moving items up to 125 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Minimal risk of exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to an ambulance environment. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, and/or irregular hours. Ability to read and comprehend.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES % OF TIME

  1. Plans, coordinates, and conducts training and educational needs for Lifelink staff including recurrent certifications and CEP training. Maintains appropriate training records.

  1. Maintains and updates Lifelink Protocols in compliance with DHEC regulations. Monitors performance to identify training needs and assists with development of performance improvement plans.

  1. Coordinates and monitors Lifelink orientation for new hires that is personalized to the new hire experience level.

  1. Covers open shifts as needed. Rides with new hires and/or staff with identified performance deficits to evaluate and formulate a plan for improvement.

  1. Assists Clinical Manager with daily operational duties (i.e. Restocking, paging for ill calls, assisting crews with equipment issues…).
