Penguin Random House Senior Publicist, Viking Penguin (Open to Remote) in New York, New York

Viking/Penguin is seeking an experienced Senior Publicist to join their team, including the following imprints of the Penguin Publishing Group – Viking, Penguin Books, Pamela Dorman Books, Penguin Life, The Open Field, and Penguin Classics. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with distinguished authors on a wide variety of books, including fiction and nonfiction, business, history, politics, memoir, inspiration, and wellness. This position will report to the Director of Publicity, and will lead media campaigns and collaborate with authors, agents, media professionals, and other stakeholders across a variety of titles. We are looking for creative, enthusiastic, and diverse voices who care about getting the next best book in the hands of readers.

The ideal candidate will have experience strategizing on and executing fiction and nonfiction PR campaigns, an established network of national broadcast, print, and online media contacts, and excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Candidates should possess strong internal and external communication skills, be adept in time management and multi-tasking, and have the ability to work both independently as well as in a collaborative setting.

The Role:

• Planning and execution of publicity campaigns across the Viking/Penguin imprints each season.

• High-touch author care and attentive communication with authors, agents, and internal publishing team.

• Developing, researching, and maintaining strong relationships with national TV, radio, print, online, and podcast contacts.

• Writing creative and impactful press materials and pitches.

• Attending and presenting at regular publishing and team meetings.

• Monitoring and analyzing media coverage and feedback.

• Creating and executing dynamic author events, including liaising with bookstores and organizations, and organizing travel.

• Prepping authors for media interviews and events.

The Essentials:

• At least 5-6 years of relevant PR experience

• Strong verbal and written communication and pitching skills

• Exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines

• Ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously; prioritize and manage time effectively; and a proactive approach to problem-solving

• Passion for books, deep understanding of the media landscape, and interest in keeping up with the news cycle and emerging trends

• A motivated and detail-oriented self-starter, strategic thinker, and team player

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

This role is open to remote candidates, with a slight preference for candidates located within a commutable distance to our building based in NYC.

The salary for this position is $70,000. Please apply by July 8, 2024. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
