Position Summary

Provides project directorship for research at Weill Cornell Medicine(WCM) in the Department of Population Health Sciences. Oversees research projects by envisioning, developing, planning, monitoring, and controlling processes involved in alignment with the PI's strategic priorities. This role is responsible for managing a portion of the PI's research portfolio including grant submissions (budget preparations, deadline management, assigning responsibilities, and communicating progress), managing a large research staff, research compliance, managing the financial health of the research program, and supporting the research program's academic and scientific activity. Provides leadership and oversight of data science teams. Works to expand the data infrastructure and supports commercialization opportunities.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Follows project life cycle from planning and initiation to project close out. Keeps all stakeholders informed of any issues or risks that could impact the research program’s quality, scope, schedule, or costs.

  2. Develops long-range strategic and operating budgets for research. Ensures that the operating budgets are executed and consistent with the strategic plans of sponsoring institutions.

  3. Responsible to produce new and competing grant applications to government, foundation, and industry sponsors.

  4. Drafts annual and other periodic scientific programs reports for non-competing renewals of governmental, foundation, and industrial grants and sponsored programs. Assists in researching and drafting large sections of invited review articles.

  5. Works to expand research and commercialization opportunities, including vetting and securing new sources of data and protecting intellectual property.

  6. Manages and coordinates numerous, highly complex research projects, including but not limited to INSIGHT (PCORI), RECOVER (NIH), and High-Need High-Cost Patient Algorithms.

Education

  • Master's Degree

Experience

Minimum of ten years of experience in a leadership capacity and management capacity.

Experience running large, multidisciplinary projects and teams across complex organizations.

Experience negotiating contracts.

Experience with consensus building.

Familiarity with human subjects research protections, data use agreements, and research compliance protocols.

Familiarity with data science.

Familiarity with clinical participant recruiting.
