New York University Post Doctoral Associate (PI: Dr. Brian L. Schmidt) in New York, New York

The New York University Translational Research Center seeks a postdoctoral associate with a background in clinical research, neuroscience and molecular biology. Research projects will investigate the mechanisms by which sensory neurons and Schwann cells contribute to cancer pain. Studies will involve characterization of the cancer pain phenotype in oral cancer patients, collection and processing of human tissues, generation of oral cancer mouse models and analysis of associated behavior, molecular biology, calcium fluorimetry, and analysis of tissue specimens. Applicants need not have experience in all areas, as expertise is available in our group.

The position offers competitive salary and provides opportunities for career development and exposure to a rich scientific environment at NYU and the New York City area. Position open immediately and for up to five years.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $52,500-$62,500. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Applicants should have a PhD, MD or DDS degree and experience in clinical research, cancer, neuroscience or related disciplines. Candidates should have the ability and motivation to work independently and to manage their research projects. Individuals are encouraged to apply, who have outstanding publication records from their graduate or postgraduate work and a passion to better understand cancer-neural interactions that can have potential to translate into treatments to stop cancer and alleviate cancer pain.
