Citigroup Global Head of Data Governance, Services - Treasury & Trade Solutions in New York, New York

Citi is transforming the way it works with Data! Our Services business is making a considerable investment in modernizing and simplifying all aspects of our data estate. We are seeking an experienced data leader who is skilled in data governance concepts and the technologies used to operationalize them. An ideal candidate understands data architectures and infrastructure. He or she has a deep understanding of platform constructs (producer/consumer), data standards, data catalogs, data quality engines, lineage, sensitivity classifications, dataset versioning, etc... as well as a vision for how to reduce the human toil that often comes with working in these independent tools on thousands of datasets at source, in motion and at rest (whether on-prem or in the cloud). The perfect candidate understands all of these things and has the strategic vision, influencing skills and action orientation to find the best way to achieve multiple outcomes through the same investment (i.e. improved data quality, policy compliance and better business results) while at the same time working with our global CDO office to shape future versions of our global data policies and procedures.

This leader is accountable for keeping our data safe, secure and compliant to standards. Our business operates in over 100 countries at incredible scale. This person will need to understand the regulatory landscape across the globe and be effective at communicating data governance strategy and implementation to diverse audiences at all levels of the organization (literally, from the analyst new hire to the c-suite). This role lives at the intersection of Data, Product and Technology and creates an incredible opportunity for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • The Global Head of Data Governance is accountable for driving the strategy, process and technology aspects needed for our business' data to stay well managed.

  • Business Data Governance Office - This candidate will lead the DGO within our Services-TTS business facilitating the maker/checker process in each of our product verticals.

  • This person is responsible for all aspects of our business-wide TTS Data Standards program.

  • Budget responsibility for investments and participation in global data defect management processes, Risk & Issues management forums, IA and Compliance engagement

  • Providing the evidence to prove our business is adhering to our Global Data Management Policy

  • A strong candidate will have a deep understanding of data lifecycle and will work to make sure the needed controls are in place to improve data quality in pursuit of better business results.

  • Has a solid understanding of COTS solutions for data management/governance in market today and enforces the "build vs. buy" discipline within the product lifecycle.

  • Accountable for OKRs and measurements to show the value of their efforts

  • Build consensus and awareness of value proposition throughout the organization and key partners.

  • Creates business cases that will drive investment decisions.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including product, technology, operations, legal, compliance, risk and policy.

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience, including 10+ years' managerial experience

  • Demonstrated experience in Data Management and Data Governance

  • Demonstrated experience in Product Management and/or Product Development discipline

  • Experience in Data Transformations

  • Experience with cloud hosting solutions

  • Demonstrated experience in improving data management process effectiveness

  • Proven track record of success in positions requiring financial acumen

  • Experience with and confidence in delivering presentations to clients and senior managers

  • Advanced judgment and in-depth quantitative or qualitative analysis to solve problems and develop new, innovative solutions

  • Required to think beyond existing solutions, assumptions or current knowledge of sophisticated areas

  • Deep, broad and diverse functional experience across all aspects of the data lifecycle

  • Proven track record as an action-oriented individual who has led cross-functional teams to define and achieve high value business objectives and ability to work independently, with follow through and capable of owning and managing projects from end-to-end

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize, prioritize and drive results with a sense of urgency, outstanding strategic, analytical, and critical thinking skills, and an ability to innovate and problem solve

  • Possesses strategic, analytical, and critical thinking skills with a demonstrated ability to innovate and problem solve

  • Proven analytical, presentation and communication skills with an ability to explain complex concepts in a compelling way

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with ability to influence and build consensus

  • Outstanding people leadership skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
