The Family Translational Research Group (FTRG) within the Center for Oral Health Policy & Management at the New York University College of Dentistry is looking for talented, hard-working people with a passion for understanding and preventing family violence to join our team. FTRG conducts a wide variety of cutting-edge clinical psychology research on topics ranging from defining maltreatment in ways that can be reliably used by field workers, to determining how couples’ conflict dynamics relate to violence, to examining the effects of family violence on children’s psychological and physical functioning to furthering our understanding of risk and protective factors for child maltreatment and partner abuse. In addition to this basic research, FTRG is involved in several large prevention efforts in the military and is conducting innovative implementation science research. These studies use the full spectrum of research methods — from intensive observational tools to epidemiological surveys. The FTRG typically has least 8-10 active federally-funded projects. The group includes several Ph.D.-level psychologists, masters-level researchers and social workers, bachelor-level research staff, and student volunteers. The FTRG is co-directed by Dr. Amy M. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grand funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Candidate must possess a Ph.D. in psychology or related field.

This position requires extensive research training and experience conducting research on families with relevance to family violence and/or training and experience in large-scale prevention trials. Excellent writing and strong data analytic skills required. If degree is in a clinical field, clinical experience focused on parenting, couples’ issues, or maltreatment is required. Fluency in typical computer applications such as Excel and languages such as R is a plus. Some projects require travel. Typically, postdocs and Assistant Research Scientists are involved in several projects and will be managing projects and staff, executing projects, conducting data analyses, and writing scientific papers. Involvement with grant writing is necessary.
