The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor in Modern Japanese Literature in New York, New York

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track or tenured professorship (Assistant Professor; Associate Professor, tenure-track or tenured; or Professor) in modern/contemporary Japanese literature and culture to begin July 1, 2024. We seek a dynamic scholar who combines deep knowledge of Japanese language, literature, and culture with a strong commitment to comparative and interdisciplinary research. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach undergraduate survey classes on Japanese literature and culture and to contribute to the department's Global Core offerings. Another major part of the position will be graduate instruction and advising for both PhD and MA students working in literary and cultural studies. Besides working closely with other Japanese studies faculty, the person hired for this position should expect to collaborate with specialists in other areas in the department (which covers China, Japan, Korea, Tibet, and Vietnam), as well as with cognate scholars of literature and culture in other departments and programs. PhD required by the time of appointment. Consideration of applications will begin on November 4, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled.

Demonstrated excellence in research and teaching is required.
