Description:

Position Purpose:

Serves as a clinical expert to ensure patient care needs are met, safe care is provided, quality measures are attained, and an exceptional care experience is provided. Is an expert clinician resource that mentors' colleagues in all aspects of patient care delivery and provides ongoing professional development of others. Provides day-to-day leadership to align patient and family needs with human (colleague) and material resources within the department and organization through collegial collaboration with others. Assists in evaluating the overall operations of the department. Is responsible for providing patient care as needed. Leads the discharge planning process.

What you will Do:

  • Supervises and coordinates patient care.

  • Ensures that patient care, quality and safety standards are met daily for all patients through caring and leader rounding, leader standard work (Mercy Way,) and performs service recovery as needed. (Initiative/Daily Management) optimal level of performance/standards of care are achieved. Responsible for coordination of post-hospitalization care related to discharge or transfer of the patient.

  • Reviews and adjusts unit staffing based on patient census and complexity. Assesses staffing needs for the upcoming shifts and communicates and/or makes the needed staffing adjustments. Delegates/supervises appropriately based on patient needs and the scope of practice.

  • Serves as a mentor for colleagues by promoting critical thinking skills in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient's plan of care.

  • Promote and provide the clinical and professional development of colleague by identifying educational needs, sharing clinical knowledge, and structuring and education plan and educational experience to promote understanding and professional growth.

Hours/Schedule:

Full Time, Days. Ability to work flexible hours. May require after business hours, weekends, holidays and travel

Minimum Qualifications:

A. Education:

Required

  • Graduate of a program in professional nursing.

  • Current RN licensure in the state of Iowa

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or commitment to complete within five years of hire.

  • Professional certification in clinical specialty obtained within 5 years of hire.

  • Preferred:

  • Master's degree in nursing or health related field.

B. Experience:

Required:

  • Demonstrates competency in acute care setting. Minimum of 3 years.

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional nursing practice relevant to areas of responsibility

C. Special Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong technology skills including software ie: Word, Excel, and Electronic Medical Record, WorkDay, etc.

  • Excellent collaboration, organizational skills and leadership skills.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and flexibility to meet department needs

  • Ability to work flexible hours. May require after business hours, weekends, holidays and travel

Completes the following mandatory courses (check all that apply):

  • Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status.

  • Completes Mandatory Reporting: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years.

  • Completes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.

  • Completes Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.

  • Completes Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.

  • Completes Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 12 months of hire and maintains current status.

  • Completes Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) within 12 months of hire and maintains current status.

  • Completes Basic Cardiac Dysrhythmias and Management class or equivalent within 3 months of hire, and annual skill validation for Cardiac Dysrhythmias
