Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Expanded Duty Dental Assistant for Rutgers Health University Dental Associates (RHUDA) within the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM).Under general supervision of Faculty, this position performs chairside, desk side and sterilization assistance for Rutgers Health University Dental Associate providers. The Registered Dental Assistant assists providers during various examinations, treatment of patients and dispenses dental materials and instruments. The position performs other clerical, sterilizing and miscellaneous tasks properly aligned with the functions of a Registered Dental Assistant.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Chairside assists providers during standard and complex procedures.
  • Anticipates the providers needs during procedures. Hands instruments to provider during examinations and treatment of patients.
  • Manages post-operative patient care.
  • Monitors anesthesia patients in recovery, when necessary.
  • Serves as sterilization assistant. Cleans and sterilizes room after each use; prepares treatment room based on scheduled procedures.
  • Seats patients, adjust chairs, drapes patients with protective covers, communicate patient concerns with staff nurse and/or treating provider.
  • Is knowledgeable of and initiates emergency procedures as established by Rutgers Health.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Satisfactory completion of a formal dental assisting program in an ADA approved program.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of prior dental assistant experience required.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Certification as a Dental Assistant and Expanded Duty Assistant in the State of New Jersey.
  • Must possess a valid dental technology license and CPR issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • BLS trained and certified a plus.
  • Knowledge of implant surgical components a plus.

  • Position requires standing 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle or feel over 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms, 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time.
  • Must be able to lift patients, heavy boxes weighing up to forty (40) pounds, instrument sets weighing up to twenty (20) pounds; must be able to lift surgical supplies above the head.
