Alamo Group Inc. 2nd Shift Production Supervisor in New Berlin, Wisconsin

Looking for a strong leader for our 2nd shift Production Supervisor position!! The hours are 2:30pm-1:00am, Monday through Thursday! Wausau Equipment Company is located in New Berlin, WI!

Under general direction, the Production Supervisor supervises shop employees in a heavy production environment. Plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, working conditions and other production-related activities. Responsible for the safety of employees, quality, and efficiency of production while ensuring on-time delivery. Reports to the Director of Operations.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Direct and supervise assigned production employees following established procedures and approved processes. Including but not limited to: performance appraisals, hiring, employee relations, attendance and timecard maintenance, coaching and training as needed.

  • Provide leadership and training to accomplish the Company goals and objectives.

  • Manage the activities of the production floor under the direction of the Director of Operations.

  • Must be capable of supervising all production operations such as machining, processing, welding, paint/powder coat, and assembly.

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate departmental activities to fulfill sales orders and production schedules, meet inventory requirements, and deliver manufactured products timely. Flex, move, or reassign labor/employees as demands dictate.

  • Balance safety, quality, productivity, cost, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas. Work to continuously improve in all areas.

  • Ability to initiate process improvements independently without being prompted, and able to follow improvements through to ensure they are being sustained.

  • Monitor assigned plant performance for production and quality standards.

  • Determine staffing levels and manpower schedules based on work load and process flows. Control and minimize labor overtime, premium freight and repair expenses.

  • Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment. Implement and enforce the preventive maintenance program, and report recommendations to the Director of Operations to replace or make adjustments to plant facilities and equipment as necessary.

  • Incorporate shop floor organization, Lean techniques, and plant cleanliness.

  • Maintain and enforce safety standards. Report any safety concerns to the Director of Operations and/or a member of the senior leadership team immediately.

  • Maintain and ensure the goals of the company’s Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Plan are satisfied.

  • Work cooperatively with other supervisors to ensure adequate supervision during time off, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

  1. Knowledge and understanding of production processes, machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance.

  2. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodologies and principles.

  3. Able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop, evaluate and implement options and solutions.

  4. Able to set work schedules, by department, to ensure manpower is available to meet production schedule.

  5. Strong planning skills with the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.

  6. Able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, operator’s manuals, and assembly instructions.

  7. Able to use hand and power tools and perform basic measurements using tape measure, protractor, and other measuring devices.

  8. Skilled and proficient with the use of personal computers; including standard office software (i.e. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)

  9. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  10. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to present information and interact with all levels.

  11. Demonstrated leadership skills; able to problem solve, persuade, motivate and train others.

  12. Must be physically capable of standing/walking for 8+ hour shifts.

  13. Must be able to work irregular and/or extended hours as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • College degree in industrial technology or related field preferred.

  • Requires three to five years of practical industrial manufacturing experience, preferably in welding, assembly, and/or machining and fabrication, and a minimum of one year, previous supervisory experience required.

  • Previous experience with robotic welding and/or automated laser cutting strongly preferred.

  • Previous work experience in a Lean manufacturing environment highly desired.

  • Requires background with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedures and a thorough knowledge of mechanical principles.

Working Conditions:

Work performed primarily in heavy manufacturing environment. Office located within the production area of the facility requiring frequent walking in and around a non-climate controlled metal manufacturing plant. Frequent exposure to noise, dirt, dust and fumes.

Extended periods of standing, walking and sitting may be required to meet production scheduling activities. Occasional lifting, pushing or pulling 50 pounds, stooping, reaching, bending, and climbing in and around fabricated metal parts and manufacturing machinery and equipment.
