We are looking for a Senior Applied Scientist who can bring deep applied science expertise and a proven track record of shipping at-scale, AI-enabled, intelligent user-facing experiences to drive vision and execution for Microsoft 365 AI. As a Principal Applied Scientist in Microsoft Search, Assistant, and Intelligence (MSAI), you will work in an exciting and fast-paced environment, collaborating closely with teams across the company, including Microsoft Research. Responsibilities

Role Responsibilities:

• Develop and deploy conversational and language understanding models at scale.

• Push the boundaries of AI platforms through innovation and partnership.

• Following and advancing best practices for Responsible AI and Privacy Preserving Machine Learning.

• Design and implement scalable and efficient algorithms for language understanding tasks, considering factors such as user engagement, diversity, and fairness.

• Conduct rigorous experiments and analysis to evaluate the performance of language understanding models, identify areas for improvement, and iterate on existing solutions.

• Collaborate with software engineers and data engineers to integrate ML models into production systems and optimize their performance.

• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in machine learning, natural language processing, information retrieval, and recommendation systems, and contribute to the company's intellectual property through patents and publications.

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, or a related field with a focus on machine learning, information retrieval, or recommender systems.

• 5+ years of experience in Machine Learning and Software Engineering

• 3+ years using ML tools like Pytorch and TensorFlow and software engineering experience such as Java, C#, Python, or C++ Practical experience developing applications using prompt engineering, fine tuning, and LLM's

• System development skills, with a long-range system view that leverages development ranging from rapid research prototypes to carefully architected complex systems.
