South Central Area Transit Public Transit Bus Driver in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee

**Job Description for Drivers Position Title: Driver Department: Transportation Purpose of this position: To transport individuals in the service area to and from community resources.

Job Qualifications:**

Must be age 21 or older.

Must have a minimum Tennessee Class D Drivers license with an F endorsement

Must have a Tennessee CDL with a P endorsement for larger buses (over 15 passengers) and Trolley Service Deviated Fixed routes

Must be able to occasionally lift to 50 pounds and push in a wheelchair up to 800lbs.

Must pass a Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check, a criminal background check and an FTA (Federal Transit Administration) pre-employment drug test.

Must pass and keep current medical examiner certificate (DOT physical).

Drivers must be readily accessible by telephone and be able to report to work on short notice and at odd hours. Three (3) refusals to work may result in termination.

Must be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D.

Description of Driver Duties

:

Responsible to his/her dispatcher in the daily performance of duties.

Responsible for the prompt and dependable pick-up and delivery of individuals to requested destinations.

Responsible for the safety of passengers.

Responsible for obeying all traffic laws and regulations to include no texting or cell phone use while driving.

Responsible for the care, maintenance, and the cleaning of vehicles both inside and out. Drivers should refuel at the end of each shift.

In coordination with the office personnel, be responsible for the prompt completion of all required reports.

Always maintain a safe and orderly vehicle. Pre and Post trip inspections are required.

Responsible for notifying area dispatcher, administrative assistant or transportation Director of any violations received affecting motor records, the same day it is received.

Responsible for being always friendly and courteous with co-employees and passengers, also for assisting other staff in keeping office and other work areas clean and presentable.

Responsible for any other duties as added by the transportation Director.

Responsible for gaining and maintaining skills to operate the various vehicle technologies.

Responsible for gaining and maintaining skills to operate the various lift equipment.

Responsible for knowing agency Policies and Procedures, as well as to master and use correct techniques and to keep the dispatcher informed of any problems that arise.

Responsible for driving in any of the county service areas.

Responsible for a pleasant personality and appearance, knowledge of defensive driving techniques and the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other agencies and the public.

Responsible for maintaining knowledge of skills and techniques updated by attending regular scheduled training sessions.

Responsible for evaluating each situation, knowing when not to attempt help when you are physically unable to do so and knowing when to request help.

Assist passengers in boarding and exiting the vehicle.

Assist persons in wheelchair into and out of the vehicle. (Drivers are not expected to move wheelchair persons up and down stairs or to enter passengers home).
