Position Summary:

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies invites applications for a 9-month, fixed- term position to begin August 19, 2024. Successful candidates will be proponents of NAEYC's developmentally appropriate practices. We seek a dynamic, highly qualified instructor whose responsibilities include teaching and service to the department, college, and university both on our main campus in Mount Pleasant and online. Candidates from historically marginalized populations are especially encouraged to apply.

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies focuses on applied research, teaching, and service. The mission of our nationally accredited https://www.cmich.edu/program/early-childhood-development-learningprogram (online and face-to-face) is to offer an education re-imagined as a shared journey along pathways of personal growth and co-construction of knowledge. Our program prepares future educators to lead children to lifelong success in early childhood settings. We seek a passionate early childhood instructor who shares our values and who will support our mission through their work. 

Required Qualifications:

• Earned master's degree (awarded by date of hire) in child development, early childhood education, human development and family studies, or closely related discipline • Expertise in early childhood development and learning (birth -- 8 years) • Competence in early childhood development and learning as evidenced by relevant coursework • Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the college level • Commitment to high quality instructional practices in varied course modalities (online and face-to-face) • Demonstration of effective collaboration with colleagues, students, families, and/or communities • Ability to articulate a commitment to inclusive classroom spaces and equitable learning opportunities • Evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Commitment to children's learning through play-based curriculum • Advocacy for equity and social justice for children and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds • Theoretical viewpoints consistent with the constructivist perspective of learning and teaching • Ability to teach across a range of topics in early childhood development and learning • Relevant professional experience working in early childhood settings with children and families • Practical experience and/or knowledge of the Reggio Approach • Affiliation with relevant professional organizations
