McLaren Health Care Nurse Intern - Telemetry 4S - McLaren Careers in Mount Clemens, Michigan

Position Summary:

Performs patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. Provides therapeutic and administrative services necessary for the care of the patient,

in an interdisciplinary environment consistent with professional practices and ethical standards.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

:

Provides direct patient care, including treatments under supervision of an RN. Specifically:

Provides basic patient care services such as ambulating, transferring, and positioning; personal hygiene assistance, prescribed bowel and bladder program assistance, meal set-up, etc.

3.

Assists with procedures and treatments within scope of training and competency validation, as directed and supervised by the registered nurse.

4.

Assists the registered nurse in ongoing assessment of patient status, developing of plan of care and expected outcomes, implementation and evaluation of plan of care and expected outcomes.

5.

Collects, records, and reports pertinent patient data. Reports significant changes in patient status to the registered nurse in a timely and responsive manner.

6.

Effectively utilizes appropriate communication styles and supports unit and hospital goals and objectives.

7.

May provide other support services, dictated by patient needs, as a care delivery team member.

8.

Complies with all health care regulations, such as HIPAA and OSHA.

9.

Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Currently and actively enrolled in an accredited associate degree or Bachelor of Science (ADN/BSN) nursing program.

  • Successfully completed both theory and clinical aspects of "Fundamentals of Nursing" and a clinical rotation, preferably medical/surgical nursings.

  • BLS Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date.

Preferred:

  • One year prior work experience as a nurse assistant.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities.

  2. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and policy and procedures manuals.

  3. A basic understanding of patient care, medical terminology, anatomy.

  4. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.

  5. Ability to handle multiple requests and prioritize appropriately.

  6. Ability to work in stressful situations.

  7. Compliance with the Code of Ethics and Guide for Professional Conduct.
