McLaren Health Care Critical Care Technician - McLaren Careers in Mount Clemens, Michigan

Schedule: 7:00am-7:30pm

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, provides indirect patient and direct patient care activities to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients.

Performs a variety of simple and complex tasks and procedures.

Reports changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse. Assists members of the health care team in achieving patient satisfaction and maintaining a clean and safe environment. Performs duties within established hospital policies and guidelines.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1.

Support patient satisfaction, quality care and efficiency under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.

Provide assistance and emotional support to patients and families.

Identify patient/family requests and promptly acts to address those needs.

Maintain a clean and safe patient environment. Collect waste and trash and disposes of according to unit policy. Clean spills and handle minor cleaning duties when observed or requested.

Comply with all infection control and safety policies and procedures.

Assist the Registered Nurse in implementation of patient care plan by completing assigned procedures accurately and promptly.

Receive report from RN. Inform RN assigned to patient of all patient care activities performed and changes in patient’s physical and mental condition.

Participates in admission process by orienting patient to their room and surroundings when appropriate.

Collect urine and stool specimens.

Obtain and document vital signs and report abnormal findings to nurse. Displays an understanding of modes available to record body temperature: central, oral, axillary, and rectal.

Assist with the administration of enemas.

Empty and record ostomies and drains. Report to RN volume and appearance.

Assist physicians with examinations.

Prepare patients for transportation throughout the facility.

Secures patient belongings at discharge and transfer.

Obtain blood and blood products from Transfusion services.

Complete post mortem care.

Measure and apply TED hose. Apply SCD sleeves.

Change suction canisters.

Report to Charge nurse or assigned RN any area of concern regarding patient needs or concerns.

Draws blood specimens from patients per requested orders, using proper procedures for exposure to body fluids.

Collects and delivers all specimens to laboratory.

  1. Perform point of service blood glucose testing as directed by the RN.

Performs routine EKG's, as requested per physician orders, with delivery to EKG department.

Assist with patient turning and lifting.

Assist with CPR as needed.

4.

Assist patients in daily living activity and supports proper nutritional care, utilizing the appropriate, age specific procedures and according to Service Excellence policy.

Assist with bath, allowing RN the opportunity to do thorough skin assessment

Assist patients with urinals, bedpans and bedside commodes as appropriate.

Assist patients in maintaining mobility by providing ROM (encouraging active ROM and assisting with passive ROM); assisting with ambulating and chair sitting when appropriate and under direct supervision of the RN.

Feed patients requiring help. Warm patient’s food as needed.

5.

Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Required:

1.

Must have one of the following in addition to High School Diploma or GED:

  • Patient Care Technician Diploma from a Vocational/Business School

  • 1 year prior experience working as a Critical Care Technician

  • Successful completion of Nursing Fundamentals.

Preference will be given to those currently enrolled in an AND/BSN or LPN program.

  • Licensed or Certified EMT or Graduate of an EMT program.

2.

BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date

.

Preferred:

  • One year of prior work experience in a health-care facility
