ProMedica Health System General Maintenance - Facilities - Hospital and Garden - Full Time - Afternoons in Monroe, Michigan

ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital offers a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services in southern Michigan and Ohio. POSITION SUMMARY

Under general direction, but following defined policies and procedures, performs general maintenance and repairs of the hospital’s facilities and equipment. This job requires knowledge and skill in a variety of trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, general maintenance, and carpentry. Incumbents may have an accomplished skill in a specific area, but are required to have a basic knowledge of the other skills in order to assist and/or relieve other employees.

ACCOUNTABILITIES All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise 1. Keeps supervision informed of problems, conditions, and status of assigned work. 2. Makes emergency repairs to building systems while on single coverage shifts. 3. Supports work with documentation. 4. Assists maintenance mechanics and skilled tradesman with troubleshooting, repair, construction and installation of building systems, equipment, and fixtures. 5. Regularly performs and assists with the preventive maintenance of equipment, checking oil levels, belts, temperature and fluid levels, air pressures, cleaning equipment, changing filters, etc. 6. Makes a variety of repairs to equipment and facilities as required, such as beds, replacing light bulbs, painting, grounds, clearing drains and other general maintenance. 7. May be assigned to move furniture and equipment. 8. Investigates/identifies and repairs minor malfunction of equipment and utilities. Orders parts to complete assigned work orders. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School diploma or equivalent Skills: Skills and abilities in the areas of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, carpentry, and general maintenance. Ability to operate a computer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Years of Experience: 3 years general maintenance experience with proven competency in the areas of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, and carpentry. License: A boiler operator license is preferred. Must obtain a High-Pressure Boiler Operator License within 2 ½ years of the hire date if assigned to the boiler house.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE Ability to operate a motor vehicle including a valid Michigan Driver’s License and meet hospital’s requirement for insurance coverage. Ability to visually and mentally concentrate when reading and making repairs. As an essential job function, due to continuously changing patient census/activity and staffing needs, must have the flexibility to work a varying schedule should the need arise, which may require working a varying shift, overtime (greater than 40 worked hours per week) and/or shift durations that exceed the assigned status for shift length and/or hours per week. May rotate shifts and is “on call” during assigned shift to perform emergency repairs to hospital facilities and equipment as requested.

WORKING CONDITIONS Physical Demands: Physical ability to do considerable walking, lifting (up to 80 lbs.), carrying, pushing, and standing is required. Working conditions vary from office environment to unpleasant conditions due to odors, excessive heat, cold, dirt, dust, small work areas and the like.
