JOB SUMMARY

Performs duties associated with maintaining health office and daily care of sick and injured students under the supervision of the school nurse. May be required to cover lunch hour for secretarial staff at school to which assigned.

JOB DUTIES

Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety, and medical information. Performs minor first aid to the sick and injured. Contacts the school nurse in case of major illness or serious injury. (Staff not to give medical advice without conferring with school nurse.)

Administration of medications per physician orders. Administration may be by mouth, topical, rectal, via g-tubes, injections, etc. Health aide will be trained and validated on their skills by their supervising RN. Confers with the school nurse regarding student’s absences for health related reasons. Communicates with teachers and other school personnel regarding students seen in the health office. Reports safety hazards to the nurse and other designated personnel. Initiates health records on all new students. Maintains and files health office records in a confidential manner. Assists in distribution and collection of health information forms. Review health information forms and refers to the nurse all pupils with special needs. Assists in communicable diseases prevention by appraising immunization needs of students. Observes students of other health needs as they are seen in the health office and refers to the nurse as indicated. Documents student’s visits to the health office and maintains work log according to school health services’ policies and procedures. Maintains bulletin boards in the health office, promotes SJHS related to health activities. Prepares reports and other documents as required or assigned. Attends staff meetings. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

Education: High School graduate, GED, or equivalent.

Licensure: First Aid and BLS certification on hire or able to attain within 60 days.

Experience: Customer service experience a plus.

Other Job Requirements:

Ability to communicate appropriately with students, parents, school staff, and SHS staff is required. Demonstration of interpersonal skills necessary for communication with media, visitors, and community partnership representatives required.
