Responsible for day-to-day activities of the breeding projects, including experiment planning, seed inventory, seed packaging, planting, data collection, care, and harvest of field plots; growth of plants in greenhouse/growth chambers, including performing crosses; assisting with DNA marker-based assessments of germplasm. Job Duties: (35%) Conduct investigations or experiments in research plots and organize field and greenhouse trials, including planting, harvesting, plot maintenance for the winter Camelina breeding program. Collect leaf tissue and extract DNA for both sequencing and KASP-based genotyping. Assist in designing research projects; independently plan and perform complex, multi-step experimental analyses to complete experiments. (30%) Collecting, recording, and analyzing data. Data analysis and preparation of data summaries for reports and presentations. (15%) Supervision and training of undergraduate and graduate students and other project personnel. (10%) Oversee the use of laboratory equipment, training personnel/volunteers and maintaining equipment as needed. (10%) Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, and seed. Qualifications Required Qualifications: BA/BS with at least 1 year of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal five years. Position involves collecting, comparing, verifying and reconciling data to help department achieve overall objectives. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with agronomic field research, data collection and analysis, experience with research machinery/equipment, KASP genotyping experience, KingFisher DNA extraction experience, attention to detail and analytical mindset, demonstrated ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work both independently and collaboratively; ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of team members and audiences; ability and willingness to adapt and learn new skills.
