Fairview Health Services Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiovascular (CV) ICU in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our ICU - Cardiovascular Department at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN.

We care for patients who have had coronary artery bypass, valve replacement and transcatheter aortic valve replacement, aortic arch repair and heart and lung transplant. The CVICU also handles patients with decompensated heart failure, adult congenital heart defects, cardiogenic shock, advanced pulmonary hypertension and cardiac arrest. We apply extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), ventricular assist devices (VAD), intraortic balloon pumps (IABP) and Swan-Ganz catheters routinely. Our complex patient population requires hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, management of organ failure, maintenance of systemic perfusion and high technical skills.

Schedule: This position will be working 0.90 FTE (72 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 12 hours on the night shift. This position will also work every third weekend.

The starting base rate of pay for the position is $39.70. Candidates with experience or higher degree may be brought in at a higher rate of pay.

  • $2.00 extra per hour weekend shift differential

  • $4.00 extra per hour night shift differential

Responsibilities Job Description

As a CVICU RN, you will be responsible for *: *

  • Assessing patient needs and identifying expected nursing outcomes;  

  • Developing an individualized nursing plan of care; 

  • Implementing interventions as needed during treatment based on the plan of care; 

  • Evaluating care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes;  

  • Using communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes; 

  • Coordinating care with members of the health care team and delegating responsibilities to others as appropriate; 

  • Demonstrating the ability to advance care by applying standards, guidelines, care pathways, and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes; 

  • Promoting a culture of evidence-based practice (EBP) by participating in a multitude of available opportunities; and  

  • Performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • MN RN Licensure

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher preferred

  • Certification in related specialty is highly desired.

  • A minimum of one-year current medical surgical RN experience in a hospital setting is preferred

  • One year of adult critical care experience is preferred.

  • Certification by the American Association of Critical Care Nursing or in a related specialty is highly preferred.
