Job ID360917 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilySupplemental Employee Full/Part TimePart-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code0001 Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job Major job functions for this position include the following. 1) Laboratory experiments - 70% - Carry out laboratory experiments under the direction of the UMGC Innovation Lab Group Leader - Work collaboratively with other staff and researchers - Troubleshoot experiments - Operate all related specialized instrumentation and technologies - Track multiple concurrent projects 2) Data Collection and Analysis - 20% - Accurately collect, analyze and interpret data using custom or vendor software - Evaluate and clearly communicate experimental results 3) Project Management - 10% - Create and track projects using the UMGC's FileMaker Pro database. - Keep detailed records of experiments, of sufficient quality to allow publication of results and full reproduction of experiments - Ensure that data and research materials are organized, maintained, and archived when appropriate, ensuring future access - Conduct regular meetings with supervisor to discuss the progress of projects - Communicate with clients and collaborators regarding project planning, status, and results - Coordinate experiments with other staff members. Percent time of appointment: 67 days or less Term and type of appointment: Temporary 40-hour work week will be arranged ahead of time which may include nights and weekends. Qualifications Required (Minimum) Qualifications: Position requires BA/BS biology, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, or related discipline and two years of related experience or a combination of education and work experience to equal six years. Demonstrated experience in research and diagnostic testing is required. Ability to follow oral directions and written protocols precisely, independently motivated, able to manage time and meet deadlines, strong communication skills, meticulous organizational skills, reliability and accountability of work. Preferred Qualifications: (Selection Criteria) Extensive molecular biology laboratory experience in preparation of sample QC using Agilent Tapestatiion and Bioanalyzer and Database management using FileMaker Pro system. About the Department This temporary position is located in the University of Minnesota Genomics Center (UMGC) where we provide services to University and external researchers. The purpose of this position is to process genomic services at the UMGC for internal and external researchers. The workload consists of following standard operating procedures (SOP), processing research and CLIA samples. generating and delivering data for service manager review. In addition, this position also requires the running, maintaining, and troubleshooting of specialized scientific instrumentation necessary to accomplishing the tasks associated with services. Team members will be expected to work collaboratively, meet CLIA require ents for sample and reagent tracking/documentation, assist in making proprietary reagents, and other general laboratory duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
