Carry out preventative maintenance on other building and grounds equipment and other jobs as part of the Building Maintenance Team. Principal Responsibilities: 50% Maintain Building Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical Systems Replace belts, filters, lamps and other parts Clean and inspect equipment Troubleshoot and repair equipment Record all maintenance and repairs 10% Computerized Fire/Life Safety, Lighting, Building Automation Systems and Elevators Carry out regular tests and inspections of all systems Program systems for changing evening and weekend events Program systems to save energy while maintaining safety Respond to trouble calls and make necessary repairs and adjustments Record all tests and inspections required by State Codes 20% Repair/ Maintain Buildings and Equipment Repair/maintain entry and overhead doors including automatic closers, automatic openers, panic bars, latches and locks Repair/maintain windows Repair/maintain restroom fixtures and equipment Repair/maintain other building systems and equipment 10% Special Exhibits and Grounds Facilities Perform maintenance and repairs on exhibits and grounds facilities including fountains, waterfalls and outdoor lighting Snow/ice removal (building and equipment responsibilities take priority) Assist with event set-up and related jobs 10% General Building Maintenance Office furniture set up, hang shelves and other building related duties Inventory and reorder lamps, cords, batteries etc. Be present at major programs Note: This does not include all possible responsibilities in this work and does not limit the assignment of related responsibilities. __ Classification Title: Mechanic 1, Job Code: 6029. Starting Hourly Rate: $29.43/hr. This is a Teamsters union position which will include the University of MN complete benefits, package, shift differential, pay increases per the union contract. Schedule: First 4 weeks M-F 7:00 am - 3:30 pm for onboarding. After onboarding a rotating schedule starts. Rotating days to be determined and typically 7 am - 3:30 pm. Schedules may vary to include occasional evenings and mornings for special events, projects and snow removal. Overtime only by approval. Qualifications This position requires the ability to work outdoors in all types of weather, climb tall ladders, standing, sitting, crawling and ability to lift 50 pounds. Required Qualifications (must be reflected on application/resume): Technical education/training in mechanical maintenance totaling two years and one year of applicable work experience. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and the ability to meet the physical requirements of this position. Valid MN Driver License and background check are required. Special Engineer Boiler License or obtained within the first year of employment Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities Preferred: Interact with fellow employees, management, customers, and the general public in a courteous, cooperative and professional manner. Maintain a positive public image, positive attitude and demeanor when performing a service for customers and the general public at the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Safely perform duties following established University safe operating procedures and practices. Basic computer skills, ability to troubleshoot and operate A/V equipment. Strong interpersonal skills. About the Department The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is a community outreach unit of the University of Minnesota's College f Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences. The Arboretum is located west of Minneapolis/St Paul and its 1,200 acres traverse the municipalities of Chaska, Chanhassen and Victoria.
