Its vision is to be the healthiest campus in the nation. Boynton Health serves an estimated 29,000 students and staff annually through 100,000 visits. This position will direct its dental providers and serve as the dental clinical leader to assure continuing efficient, fiscally stable, and high quality oral health care. The practice of dentistry as defined by the Minnesota State Dental Practice Act. This position serves as the clinical leader of dental services in the unit, one of only a few campus oral health programs across the Big10. Detailed Job Responsibilities: Duties include the oversight and management of the provider staff, clinical quality, complying with infection control and regulatory clinical compliance activities of Boynton Health. In addition to direct supervision responsibilities, this position will work alongside other Boynton clinical service line directors, such as eye, physical therapy, and primary care. The Dental Department provides 17,000 visits per year to students and staff and faculty from the campus community. The department receives funding solely through billable services under the student health and employee benefit plans. The Dental Director will lead and champion Boynton Health's strategic focus areas and values which focus on creating access and better utilization of services by students and the campus community. This position will lead efforts to move the dental departments towards an integrated model both clinically and operationally. This leadership position will champion the values of Boynton and model professional and ethical standards. The Dental Director promotes a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively. The Dental Director will work closely with Boynton's clinical and operational leadership to meet goals for visits, care, efficiency and other clinical quality outcomes. Dentists are responsible for the complete diagnosis, treatment and referral of Boynton Health Service Dental patients. This would include, but not be limited to the following areas: oral examinations, interpretation of dental radiographs, placement of amalgam and composite restorations, preparation and placement of crowns, bridges, and other prosthetics. Identifies and treats oral infections, providing emergency oral health services as needed. Direct diagnostic imaging services are provided by Boynton providers and staff. Clinical Leadership (10%) According to practice guidelines and benchmarks, recruits, determines needs for dental staffing. Establish, modify, and approve dental services, policies and procedures as needed and appropriate. Serve as the clinical authority to approve all dental clinical policies and protocols. Determine necessary qualifications, key competences, and set performance expectations for dental clinical staff. Implement peer review to assure high quality clinical care. Hire, appoint, reappoint, credential, re-credential, and assign dental/surgical privileges for dental providers. In coordination with the Assistant Managers, organizes ongoing continuing education for professional growth. Coordinate quality assurance issues using resolution as means to effect change. Responsible for the education program for patients. Participate and lead efforts within the dental program to maintain Boynton's AAAHC accreditation. Reviews and monitors monthly financial reports and dental fee structure periodically with the Director of Finance and the Director of Operations. Serve as a liaison to interested student groups and other on campus gr ups around oral health needs. Attend clinical leadership meetings within the health service and meet with outside other organizations concerned with dental care to facilitate referrals and other arrangements as appropriate to assure continuity of care. Collaborates closely with Boynton Executive Leadership as needed and appropriate regarding continuity of care planning, operational issues, and other issues regarding long range planning for students and patients. Leads clinical quality initiatives such as peer review and seeks to improve other clinical indicators such as treatment plan completion. Supervision (10%) Provides ongoing supervision to dentists and provides regular performance feedback. Conducts performance reviews for staff per U of MN HR guidelines. Coaches and mentors staff, focusing on building internal talent through professional development. Coordinates continuing education of staff. Engages dentists in developing and implementing an annual work plan and tracking performance. Assures that supervisees complete contingency planning, monitoring and auditing to mitigate any risk areas. Collaborate closely with Talent Management and Human Resources to build and develop clinical leadership to assure continuity of care and nurture clinical professional development. Be fair and treat employees equitably and in accordance with UMN personnel policies, labor agreements, and laws. Be responsive to individual needs of staff and facilitate individual growth. Patient Care (80%) Provide general dentistry care as approved under the scope of licensure. Qualifications Required Qualifications: D.D.S. degree from an American Dental Association accredited program.
