The Coordinator for Aquatic Events and Facility Operations reports directly to the Assistant Aquatics Director. This position is designed to work with the Director for the supervision of competitive aquatic events and facility operations of the University Aquatic Center and St. Paul Campus pools. General work hours for this position are Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00am-6:30pm, with frequent adjustments to include additional evening and weekend hours as necessary, including Sundays. Work Responsibilities: Event Management (80%) Manage the execution and supervision of Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center competitive events. Hire, train, supervise, and schedule student-staff, including; equipment technicians, computer system operators, aquatic interns, and administrative assistants. Serve as meet director for events hosted by Recreation and Wellness. Prepare event contracts and billing confirmations. Creation and management of major event budgets. Form and maintain relationships with event sponsors, renters, and community/university partners. Manage setup and tear down of special event equipment and facility decor. Assist with the coordination of event promotions and ceremonies. Maintain event related technical and facility equipment Facility Operations (20%) Provide daily, weekly, and monthly facility and equipment checks and work with University Facilities Management staff to schedule maintenance and repair to the facility and equipment as necessary. Work with Assistant Aquatics Director and Head Guards to fix and maintain facility equipment related to lap swim and aquatic programs. Assist with the planning, scheduling and execution of facility projects for the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. Serve as activity supervisor, building supervisor, lifeguard, or manager on duty during evening and weekend programming as necessary. Maintain safe and accessible storage areas in the Aquatic Center. Other duties as assigned by the Director. Qualifications Required Qualifications: BA/BS plus at least two years experience or a combination of education and related work experience to equal six years. Ability to lift objects up to 30 pounds while moving frequently around office areas and the pool deck. Preferred Qualifications: BA/BS in Sport Management or a related field Three years progressive experience in Aquatics event and facility supervision in a college setting. Experience with Colorado Time Systems and HyTek Meet Management Software. Experience with obtaining sponsorships. Experience with management of part time, student, or temporary staff. Experience in customer service positions. American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard, or ability to become certified within three months of hire date. About the Department Recreation & Wellness is a department within the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs (OSA) at the University of Minnesota. We offer hundreds of recreation, exercise, and sport opportunities for the University community and operate the University Recreation and Wellness Center, University Aquatic Center, University Fieldhouse, St. Paul Gymnasium, Student Recreational Sports Fields and Dome, West Bank Fields, St. Paul Soccer Fields, St. Paul Tennis Courts, and Les Bolstad University Golf Course. Amen ties in University Recreation and Wellness indoor facilities include fourteen handball/racquetball courts, eleven squash courts, ten multi-use rooms and studios, six gymnasiums, five swimming pools, three indoor running tracks, and two rock climbing walls. The facilities also offer more than 500 treadmills, exercise bikes, elliptical trainers, weight machines, and other pieces of exercise equipment. University Recreation & Wellness is funded by student fees and revenue generated by the department. The department workforce is approximately 50 full-time staff and 575 student employees.
