Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing activities associated with surveillance and investigation of suspect and confirmed case of Tuberculosis. This position provides consultative services for multidisciplinary health care setting, assists in the performance of disease control and prevention program component of epidemiology, surveillance field investigation and containment.

Implements and enforces the development and dissemination of Tuberculosis case reporting regulations, policies and procedures for the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County by visiting and maintaining conferences with physicians, hospitals, laboratories and other allied health interests to identify suspects and or cases of TB. Provides monitoring, consultation and technical assistance to physicians and Health Care facilities in identifying areas failing to comply with National Performance Indicators as specified by CDC and MDCHD which include but are not limited to the percentage of positive AFB smear patients started on treatment within 7 days of sputum collection. The percentage of patient started on the recommended 4 drug treatment (RIPE). The percentage of sputum culture reported and patient's HIV status. Surveillance Analyst will conduct face to face interview of TB suspect/ cases reported to the MDCHD by hospitals, physicians or other health care facilities within 24/48 hours of reporting for the purpose of case management and continuation of treatment. If discharged Surveillance Analyst will do a home visit within 24 hours of status knowledge. Interview will be conducted regardless of client location (At hospital or at home if discharged) Surveillance Analyst will conducts home assessment to identify potential barriers for the treatment and care of TB patients as well as to identify potential contacts and those at high risk of becoming new TB cases due to exposure.

Coordinates and promotes the services of State Laboratory for the purpose of rapidly identifying new TB suspect/ cases, by promoting Tests available e.g., Nucleic Acid Amplification test (NAA), preliminary drug resistant HAlNS test and Initial Drug Susceptibility Test. To ensure proper provision of services for clients diagnosed with tuberculosis, Surveillance Analyst will organize and plans along with health care providers the course of caution for conducting epidemiological investigation. The Surveillance Analyst will assist as a backup in performing Contact Investigation, identify contacts, assess risk factors, locate, refer, and will directly observe client ingesting their TB meds (DOT) as appropriate to ensure that proper services are provided accordingly.

Surveillance Analyst will be responsible for interjurisdictional Clients sent to MDCHD for follow up. This will include to locate and refer, provide clinic appointment for a quick response to referring County or State Develops and analyses Tuberculosis statistics to determine disease patterns in selected populations in Miami-Dade County, to include coordination of data collection activities, and data analysis.

Surveillance Analyst will provide a weekly update to the Health Service Manager on all reported TB reported suspects/cases on their status until client has been seen by MDCHD. The Surveillance Analyst will follow accurately when a client is readmitted to hospital, will obtain hospital report and will update clinic staff in a timely manner.

Surveillance Analyst will provide and enter in the Health Management System (HMS) all necessary documentation for timeless submission of RVCT. This includes PCR or Gene Expert, Culture, Susceptibility, HIV results, Chest X-Rays, or CT-scan.

Surveillance Analyst will assist Nurse Case Manager in the weekly case review meeting. Will need to be able to navigate in the State Share Point. Will attend Case Review meetings, staff meetings and Consortium meetings, in-service training sessions as scheduled.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum - Experience working with infectious disease programs such as Tuberculosis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases or HIV/AIDS. Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle to perform job related duties.

    Preferred - Incumbent in this position is preferred to be bilingual in English and Spanish.
