Neurology Headache Division

Instructor/Trainee , Clinical

JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Duties will include providing direct out patient care services at the PAC Neurology Clinic and the CRB Pain Medicine C linic, and inpatient services at t he University of Miami Hospital for twelve months of the year. During these months incumbent will pa rticipate in work rounds in the morning, provide clinical care and supervise the residents and provide consultations as needed in other areas of the hospital.

The incumbent will be expected to come in for rounds on weekends as needed . As skills are developed during the year incumbent will lead rounds independently.

Incumbent will participate in electives. These elective may include anesthesiology/pain clinic and basic science research . Time and mentorship will be provided to develop a clinical research project and prepare findings for presentation at a national meeting and for publication.

Incumbent is expected to gain proficiency in headache management through mentored patient care in outpatient and inpatient services. An office-based outpatient infusion center provides an opportunity to gain expertise in acute care of refractory headache. Mastery in performing nerve blocks and on a botulinum toxin A injections will be gained during procedure clinics. Incumbent may advance their understanding of interdisciplinary clinical aspects of headache during elective service time. . Incumbent will be expected to participate in conferences and teach medical students, residents, and rotating pain fellows. Fellows have the opportunity to gain translational research skills and participate in mentored re-search.

Incumbent is expected to learn and properly perform headache billing, participate in quality improvement projects. Attendance at didactic teaching sessions is expected as well as educational presentations to other hospital and academic services as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS):

Education and experience:

  • R equires a n MD degree from a recognized accredited Uni versity (or foreign equivalent).

  • USA citizen or USA Legal resident

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Good communications skills (face to face, over the phone and in writing)

  • Excellent customer service skills Ability to work collaboratively with other employees.

  • Good o rganizational skills .

    WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS

    Work conditions: work is normally performed in an indoor office environment. Subject to frequent interruptions.

    Physical Activity Requirements:

  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or by telephone.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate keyboard and other office equipment.

  • Reaching to retrieve and maintain files.

  • Bending, pushing, moving and lifting files, documents and objects weighing up to approximately 15-20 p o unds.
