Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Consistent with scope of licensure parameters of the California Nurse Practice Act and Mercy Medical Center (MMC) policy and procedure renders direct and indirect nursing care to assigned patient populations. Assesses patients for nursing needs establishes and implements a problem oriented plan of nursing care and evaluates the effectiveness of care provided. Provides immediate direction to other members of the nursing care team to assure the appropriate provision of nursing services. Patient age populations served and the specific competencies that comprise this job title may vary among nursing units. These specifics are found in the Department / Unit Orientation & Initial Assessment of Competency checklists for this unit/position and -by reference - form a part of this job description.

Qualifications

Position Summary

  • Must be able to take call, float to other areas, and work on weekends as required.

  • Experience Category:

  • Experienced Registered Nurse: Greater than 1 year of recent experience in Labor and Delivery

  • Must possess and maintain a current Registered Nurse (RN) License with the state of California.

  • Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate.

  • Must possess and maintain a current Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certificate or obtain one within six months of employment.

  • Must possess and maintain a current ACLS within 6 months of employment.

  • Must achieve or maintain a current National Certification Corporation (NCC) certificate in Electronic Fetal Monitoring

OR,

Association of Women's Health Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Certification:

  • Experienced RNs with greater than 1 year of labor and delivery experience will have 6 months from hire to obtain certification.

  • New Grad or RN with no prior L&D experience will have 24 months to complete orientation and certification (if L&D orientation is completed sooner, then the certification will need to be completed accordingly).

  • Should orientation need to be extended, the nurse will be granted additional time accordingly to obtain certification which will be communicated by leadership and / or educator.

  • Staff hired originally into the cost center 638000-Obstetrics Acute by May 1, 2021 are not required to obtain or maintain electronic fetal monitoring certification unless they are cross-trained to 740000-Labor and Delivery.

  • Staff hired after May 1, 2021 must complete Postpartum and Labor and Delivery cross training within 24 months from date of hire.

Preferred:

  • Bilingual

Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.

Pay Range

$56.22 - $73.97/hour
