JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Brandywine is searching for a Maintenance Worker (General) A to join their team. Duties include:

  • Cut, trim, fertilize, aerify, roll, seed, water lawns, athletic areas, etc.

  • Plant, transplant, prune, spray, dust and cultivate flowers, trees, shrubs, etc.

  • Remove brush, leaves, grass clippings, rubbish, etc. from walks, roadways, parking areas, lawns, and other University property

  • Establish sub-grades and finish grades for lawns, athletic areas, etc.

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on trucks, tractors, power mowers, and other motorized University equipment, i.e., clean, oil, grease, and inspect equipment for mechanical problems

  • Make minor adjustments, replace spark plugs, oil filters, adjust, replace belts, check battery and water level, check tires for proper pressures, etc.

  • Operate trucks, tractors, power grounds and snow removal equipment to maintain grounds and remove snow from roads, parking lots, walks, etc.

  • Drive University vehicles as required; clean and wash as needed

  • Utilize hand and power tools to perform general maintenance duties, i.e., install shelving, hinges, chalkboards, mount fire extinguishers, replace damaged floor and ceiling tile, patch floors, replace and glaze windows, repair plumbing fixtures, fix leaks, etc.

  • Prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces utilizing hand brush or roller, operate mechanical spray painting equipment to paint parking lot and roadway lines, and curbing

  • Perform general electrical repairs, such as replacing electrical wall switches, receptacles, fluorescent and mercury light ballasts, etc.

  • Relamp lighting fixtures inside and outside buildings

  • Check campus heating equipment (oil, gas, boal fired or electric) for proper operation, i.e., check burners for water level, forced air assembly, etc., make minor adjustments and clean as required; maintain check on coal, oil and gas supply; advise supervisor of supplies and condition of unit

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance duties following predetermined schedules and procedures, i.e., replace filters, lubricate and oil, adjust or replace drive belts

  • Replace worn or defective parts, read gauges and record data

  • Mix concrete for patchwork and/or masonry repairs to curbs, walks, catch basins, walls, etc.

  • Pour and finish same

  • Lay asphalt paving for cracks and patchwork on roadways, sidewalks and parking areas

  • Inspect, repair and recharge fire extinguishers on a regular basis

  • Test and maintain fire alarm and emergency lighting system

  • Inspect facilities to include roofs and report condition to supervisor

  • Make minor repairs as assigned

  • Assist higher grade employees with repairs to campus facilities and equipment as assigned

  • Receive, and check shipments against delivery invoices for accuracy

  • Move and store shipment items to various campus facilities

  • Assemble and install material received as required

  • Direct lower grade employees in loading and unloading, storing and assembling material and equipment as required

  • Load and unload trucks, when needed

  • Spread cinders, sand and other anti-skid materials

  • Occasionally direct the work of full-time or part-time employees as required

  • Assist in setting up furniture, equipment and material, as required

    Job Requirements: Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data. 9 to 12 months of effective experience.

    Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

    Days Off: Saturday, Sunday
