Department Summary:

MITRE's Enterprise Information Technology Division provides multiple corporate-wide services including High Performance Computing (HPC), Enterprise PC and Mobile Solutions, Network Services, and Protected Computing to MITRE research organizations.

Job Description:

The HPC group is looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer with a background in designing, implementing, and supporting storage in an HPC environment. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly technical candidate seeking to be part of a collaborative team that leverages automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced computing to deliver AI and HPC services to MITRE organization and its sponsors. The HPC team is responsible for purchasing, deploying, and maintaining HPC hardware and user tools for over 800 MITRE employees. The HPC team engages with projects across MITRE to build and support computing environment for Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis, Modeling and Simulation, and more.

  • Provide Linux systems administration support for MITRE’s HPC storage systems to ensure the availability, performance, and security of systems.

  • Design, install and maintain backup, storage, and data protection technologies in MITRE’s HHPC environments.

  • Leverage and develop monitoring and accounting solutions that streamline administrative tasks and optimize system management.

  • Assist the development and implementation of best practices, compliance standards, and security controls all computing environments.

  • Participate in an environment that emphasizes trust, open communication, creative thinking, and cohesive team effort.

  • Work in an agile model, delivering assigned stories as part of development sprints.

  • Use data and analytics to understand usages and trends on storage and backup infrastructure.

  • Understand data pipelines so that you can help identify and resolve issues.

  • Provide lifecycle support of enterprise storage and data protection solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Block, file, object, and archive storage technologies including DDN, VAST, and NetApp and data protection solutions.

  • 5+ years of data infrastructure technology experience with at least 3 years designing, deploying, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-grade storage solutions.

  • Experience with data lifecycle including data architectures, data storage, system integrations, system maintenance, system migrations, data transfers, and data archival.

  • Ability to perform storage data analytics, reporting and visualization.

  • Ability to lead and participate in the research and evaluation of new technologies, hardware, software, services, and implementation processes.

  • Solve complex technical problems, communicate ideas, and plans to a diverse set of colleagues, negotiate technical solutions across teams when needed.

  • Develop and maintain documentation for processes and system configurations, author standard operating procedures for Infrastructure standards.

  • Direct experience collaborating on the design and integration of a broad range of enterprise IT capabilities from multiple vendors spanning functional areas.

  • Effectively manage and track work, regularly communicate status and provide feedback.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Infrastructure automation and configuration management framework and scripting languages including Ansible, Chef, Python, Ruby, PowerShell, etc.

  • Security+ or equivalent certification

  • Experience with logging and monitoring tools such as Splunk.

  • Experience with security compliance standards such as NIST 800-171 or CMMC for HPC systems.

  • Candidates holding current / active US Government security clearance(s) are preferred.
