The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) assists with the patient care and coordination within the Orthopaedic total joints division. The APP will support the physicians by evaluating patients, conducting histories and physicals, writing orders, interpreting laboratory and diagnostic testing, and performing patient education and assisting in the operation room. Under the supervision of the Orthopaedic total joint physician, the APP prescribes medications and adjusts dosages of medication. The APP also evaluates patients for additional treatment and with approval from the physician, obtaining consults from other services as warranted. The APP facilitates the management and evaluation of both inpatients and outpatients. The APP functions in a supportive position as an extension of the Orthopaedic Department, under the supervision of the Primary and Alternate Supervising Physicians. The APP interacts on a professional level with the medical/ surgical administrative and support staff as well as patient clients. The APP participates in daily rounds, conferences, surgical clinics, surgical procedures in the OR, inpatient care and meetings with the patient’s family when requested. Provides technical assistance and continuity of care in both scheduled and emergency procedures. Under the direct supervision of the surgeon to assist in carrying out an operation with optimal results for the patient. The APP is responsible for the coordination and administration of quality patient care in conjunction with the physicians, residents and nurses.

· Required : 3-5 years of previous job-related experience

· Preferred : 6-10 years of previous job-related experience

Licensure/Certifications :

· Required :

o CPR – Basic Life Support

o Nursing – Current Registered Nurse License - State of Illinois

o Nursing – Nursing Practitioner License – State of Illinois

· Preferred : N/A

· Other : Specialty certification in a clinical or functional area of nursing granted by a national nursing organization is preferred

Computer Skills :

· Required : Basic Keyboarding Skills

· Preferred: EPIC

· Other : Ability to become proficient in EPIC with on-the-job training
