Description:

The Director of Clinical Laboratories at Loyola University Medical Center, under the direction of the Regional Administrative Director coordinates and ensures the effectiveness of the core lab, microbiology, transfusion medicine, transplant immunology, and clinical genomic laboratories. This includes setting priorities, developing policies and procedures; collaborating with medical and administrative leaders to assure efficient lab operations; financial and human resource management; strategic planning; and quality assessment and improvement. They continually evaluate progress toward objectives and ensures that day-to-day operations are efficient and effective while maintaining the standards of laboratory practice as defined by the College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute and relevant professional societies.

What you will do:

QUALITY:

In collaboration with senior management and/or clinical leadership, assists in establishing standards and strategic initiatives to support organizational patient care goals.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:

Assists in the development of annual budget to ensure appropriate allocation of resources to support operations and meet departmental goals. Manages operational budget including revenue, expenses, staff levels and capital equipment sufficient to meet current and projected patient volume or service requirements.

PLANNING:

Leads strategic planning activities for service area and aligns departmental or service area plans and activities with organizational goals. Analyzes environmental issues as well as quality, service and financial data in order to collaboratively develop systematic plans for achievement of goals.

ORGANIZING RESOURCES:

Implements systems and functions to achieve organizational objectives and maximize quality of care and high patient satisfaction, and/or efficient operations. Recruits, interviews and selects staff in collaboration with Human Resources and ensures that staffing guidelines/standards are maintained in accordance with patient care and/or departmental requirements. Utilizes measurements of quality and productivity to evaluate systems and staffing. Develops and implements policies and management/operational structures to ensure continuous quality care, patient access, customer service excellence and enhanced profitability.

TEAM BUILDING:

Fosters positive team collaboration and staff development to facilitate efficient operations, employee engagement and achievement of patient quality/safety/satisfaction or customer service excellence goals. Oversees human resource functions including recruitment, training and performance management to maintain the highest quality workforce. Establishes and maintains effective relations with internal and external contacts.

COMMUNICATION:

Provides effective communication to administration, faculty, management and staff to establish understanding of the organization mission and strategic goals necessary to achieve operational goals.

What's required:

  • Bachelor's degree; Master's preferred MBA, HMA, or related field.

  • 6-10 years of previous job-related experience; 10+ years preferred.

  • Managerial Experience: 3-5 years
