Trinity Health Pharmacy Technician Outpatient Pharmacy - PRN - Rotating in Mason City, Iowa

Description:

Position Purpose:

The Pharmacy Technician assists in the technical functions of the practice of pharmacy, enabling the pharmacist to provide pharmaceutical care to the patient. An integral part of the pharmacy team, the technician transcribes prescriptions to the pharmacy dispensing system, bills insurance, packages, and labels medications, assists with inventory control, and provides exceptional customer service to our patients.

What You Will Do:

  • Greets and assists patients/customers in person and on the phone in a professional and confidential manner

  • Communicates effectively with colleagues and customers alike, being a good listener and adjusting style as needed

  • Represents MercyOne Pharmacies in a courteous, friendly, and caring manner

  • Performs duties with flexibility, adapting to changing schedules and needs of the customers, prioritizing work load accordingly

  • Operates cash register accurately, including cash, credit card, in store charges and payments on account

  • Assists with all aspects of inventory control: ordering, receiving, stocking, returning, and additional drug inventory control duties, including checking pharmacy stock shelves for outdated drugs and assisting with annual inventory counts of all products stocked in pharmacy including prescription, non-prescription, and supplies with a focus on stewardship

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Preferred:

  • Completion of Pharmacy technician training course and/or Certification.

Certification and Registration:

Required:

  • Following accepting position, registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Technician Trainee or Certified Pharmacy Technician is required prior to commencement of employment per IA BOP Rules 657-3.3.

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification. National certification must be acquired and maintained from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), or the National Health Career Association prior to the expiration date of a Pharmacy Technician in Training registration. (can be obtained at any point after starting work and prior to expiration date of technician trainee registration)

OR

  • Registration: Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacist-Intern per Board of Pharmacy rules : “Pharmacist-intern” or “intern” means a person enrolled in a college of pharmacy or actively pursuing a pharmacy degree, or as otherwise provided by the board, who is registered with the board for the purpose of obtaining instruction in the practice of pharmacy from a preceptor pursuant to Iowa Code section 155A.6. “Pharmacist-intern” includes a graduate of an approved college of pharmacy, or a foreign graduate who has established educational equivalency pursuant to the requirements of rule 657—4.7(155A), who is registered with the board for the purpose of obtaining practical experience as a requirement for licensure as a pharmacist in Iowa. “Pharmacist-intern” may include an individual participating in a residency or fellowship program in Iowa, whether or not the individual is licensed as a pharmacist in another state.

  • Tact, diplomacy, accuracy, dependability, computer and typing skills

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Proficient in mathematical skills

  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical names and dosages

  • Must have acceptable accuracy in performing tasks of verbal and written communication, keyboard operation and computer skills, as well as interpretation and use of numerical and graphical materials.

  • Must be organized and detail oriented

  • Must follow all laws and regulations related to the practice of pharmacy

  • Must be able to read, write and/or speak English

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Currently in High School, High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
