12896BRDepartment Name:HSP Supply Chain OR Location:Meriter Hospital Job Description: Responsible, in the OR, for maintaining the systemic flow of supplies, instruments and equipment for case cart preparation; monitoring and maintaining inventory levels; inspection, decontamination, sterilization, preparation, and care of instruments used in surgery; and for accurate and complete case-picking. This position may also assist OR Aides with cleaning operating rooms between surgical cases and patient transportation under direction of OR management or the charge nurse.

    Responsibilities:

  • Prepare OR case carts completely and accurately.

  • Clean and reprocess surgical instruments as necessary.

  • Maintain established inventory levels and notify appropriate personnel of product shortages or problems. Carefully monitors supplies and instruments for integrity, sterility, and outdates.

  • Receive and replenish stock (supplies, instruments, and equipment).

  • Must display a positive job attitude to patients and co-workers. Must accept an equitable share of workload with a minimal amount of supervision.

  • May transport case carts, instruments, supplies, and equipment. Most often receives prioritization from nursing staff. Should be able to calculate priorities when direction is not given.

  • Remove faulty equipment, instruments, and supplies from service, communicating with OR Management.

  • Understand and practice appropriate procedures for inspecting, cleaning, decontamination, assembling, and processing instruments.

  • Maintain accurate and conscious inventory control, exercising great care to control excess stock.

  • Must exercise extreme care when initiating replenishment process for and handling expensive implants and supplies.

  • Assist in training new OR Materials Aides.

  • May assist OR Aides when staffing conditions warrant. Direction will be given by OR Management or charge nurse.

  • Perform other tasks under direction from OR Supply Chain Manager, OR Equipment /Supply Coordinator, or charge nurse as conditions and staffing warrant.

  • Follow and comply with all policies, procedures, rules, regulations and Meriter service behaviors.

  • Must be precise and accurate, and able to take corrective action to deal with supply shortages or concerns including sending and receiving supplies from other hospitals.

  • May have to perform basic equipment trouble-shooting.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School or equivalent

  • Six months in a hospital setting

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to understand basic to moderate medical terminology

  • Basic understanding of asepsis principles

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year-OR Aide

  • One year-SPD tech, instrument tech or equivalent
