Description

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and the Postdoctoral Fellows, the Staff Research Associate II (SRA II) will provide technical support in research laboratory, modeling the molecular and genetic basis of neurological and neuro-psychiatric disorders and testing therapeutic treatments in-vitro. The vast majority of work will be performing mammalian tissue culture including, but not limited to, iPSCs, primary cultures and mammalian cell lines. Additional work will include, DNA, RNA, and protein extraction and analysis (qPCR, RT-PCR and Western blotting respectively), routine quality control of cell cultures, as well as investigating cytotoxicity and therapeutic effects of candidate compounds in vitro and in vivo (mouse). You will typically perform a wide variety of standard repetitive procedures without detailed technical supervision, and may also adapt procedures to meet the needs of research projects in discussion with postdoctoral fellows. Furthermore, the SRA II will be involved in generating DNA plasmids, lentivirus for infection and cell culture studies; performing PCR and gel electrophoresis; immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry; preparing buffers, solutions, and chemicals for lab experiments; data analysis and interpretation; maintaining database of experimental results; assisting with figures for grant applications and publications; providing technical assistance in the lab, including assisting other members of the lab, and assisting with training of lab assistants and students.

Salary Range: $28.08 - $45.08/Hourly

Qualifications

Required:

• B.S. degree or equivalent in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or related field.

• General working knowledge of molecular biology, molecular genetics, cell biology, human genetics, stem cell biology, and/or neuroscience theories and principles.

• Extensive experience in tissue culture techniques.

• Good communication skills and ability to work well with multiple individuals.

• Ability to maintain an organized working area

• Ability to keep accurate and organized lab records.

• Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and to switch focus as needed.

• Knowledge of chemistry to prepare solutions for lab experiments.

• Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for handling chemical, biohazard, and medical waste.

• Knowledge of basic molecular biology/cell biology/genetic techniques, equipment, and supplies.

• Working knowledge and ability in the use of computers (PC and MAC operating systems).

• Excellent attention to detail, for accurate data entry and analysis.

• Good organization and time management skills.

• Ability to learn new laboratory techniques and new lab equipment, as needed.

Preferred:

• Skill in using various computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe products, etc.).

• Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for handling chemical, biohazard, and medical waste.
