UCLA Health Labor Relations Manager in Los Angeles, California

Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Employee and Labor Relations, you will provide leadership, guidance, interpretation and training to managers and supervisors on UC Policy and contract interpretation. You will serve as senior resource for labor relations and contract interpretation. In this role, you will actively participate in local and system-wide bargaining, including drafting/reviewing/modifying proposals, soliciting feedback from stakeholders and clients on proposed changes; communicating changes to managers and supervisors and serving as a primary resource in change implementation.

As our Labor Relations Manager, you will coordinate and direct grievance process to ensure compliance with contract provisions and consistency in raising procedural issues. You w ill assist in the readiness for arbitration, including documentation and witness preparation. You will coordinate timely/accurate responses to information requests; organize and lead meetings between managers and employee organizations and assist management during labor activity. You will also routinely liaise with union representatives and endeavor to resolve issues/concerns at the lowest level possible.

Salary range: $105,200-$250,600 AnnuallyQualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in employment related matters and unionized environments

  • Advanced knowledge of public sector laws/requirements; healthcare industry, higher education preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of labor/employment law and the principles and techniques of labor negotiations.

  • Ability to analyze and draft proposals for negotiations, settlements, other employment agreements

  • Advanced analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Skill in writing concise, clear, relevant and persuasive documents, including correspondence, case analyses, settlement agreements.

  • Demonstrated presentation skills, i.e., grievance meetings, trainings, panels.

  • Advanced knowledge of organizational policies and procedures; advanced knowledge of functional area and understands how work impacts other areas in Human Resources and the organization.

  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with other UCLA offices, the UC Office of the President and other UC campuses.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively.

  • MS Office Suite proficiency (MS Word, Outlook, Power Point, etc).

  • Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalent combination of education and experience.
