In this role, you will lead and develop high impact sourcing strategies within the Direct Materials Procurement organization for various categories such as poles, transmission towers, engineered-to-order substation apparatus, wire and cable, transformers, MRO supplies, safety equipment, or chemicals and gases.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Lead souring, negotiating, and contracting activities in the development and execution of category strategies and continuous improvement projects within the Direct Materials Procurement organization.

  • Develop sourcing strategies using your own ingenuity in addition to industry best practice strategic sourcing techniques such as total cost of ownership, internal/external benchmarking, should cost estimates, forecasting, SWOT analysis, make vs buy, risk review, etc.

  • Lead terms & conditions, price, and service level negotiations which drive supplier selection and cost savings to ensure SCE receives the best value possible while mitigating potential risk factors.

  • Own business unit relationships up to senior and executive levels within assigned categories to collaboratively plan and execute effective strategic sourcing strategies.

  • Effectively build support for your strategies through written and verbal communication as well as stand-alone PowerPoint presentations.

  • Maintain consistent interaction with suppliers and ensure adherence to established contracts, negotiating dispute resolution when necessary.

  • Develop metrics to monitor area of responsibility, gaps and implement action plans to eliminate bottlenecks and improve operational efficiency.

  • Execute Purchase Orders, Change Orders, and Request for Proposals across assigned categories.

  • Maintain accountability for all procurement functions as lead Contract Manager supporting related sub-categories.

  • Train and provide consultation to peers and other collaborators on the procurement process.

  • Maintaining a safety conscious work environment by following SCE safety protocols and safe work practices; and performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

The essentials

  • Combined seven (7) or more years of experience in purchasing, contract management, negotiating contracts, and/or similar supply chain management roles.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.

  • Five (5) or more years of experience negotiating contracts.

  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM), Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM), Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.

  • Experience performing complex analysis to use data when performing internal and external market assessments and making recommendations in support of sourcing strategies.

  • Experience with Microsoft office, including advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, SAP, and Ariba.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including oral presentations, formal correspondence and contractual documentation, group facilitation, and negotiations.

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
