As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will be responsible for providing care to patients in all perioperative areas, including the OR, pre-op, and PACU. RNs in this position review patient medical records for completeness, assist with assembling instruments, supplies, and equipment, verify proper functioning of equipment in the OR, coordinate and document patient care, and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews patient medical record (permit, history and physical, preoperative check list, etc.) for completeness, and takes appropriate action if discrepancies are found.

  • Assists with assembling necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment for each procedure. Verifies proper functioning of all equipment in the O.R.

  • Coordinates patient care needs with surgical team members.

  • Documents all aspects of patient care in accordance with policies and procedures and legal medical requirements.

  • Assists with reviewing, revising, and developing Operating Room policies, procedures and standards.

  • Participates in the orientation of new personnel and monitors all personnel in the OR.

  • Provides care and monitoring of patients having local anesthesia or IV sedation.

  • Cares for pre-op and PACU patients as assigned.

  • Works with physician in specialty clinics as assigned.

  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure (RN licensure). Maintains required CPR (ACLS).

  • Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.

  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing.

Certifications:

  • current license as registered nurse in the State of Ohio. ACLS certification or will obtain within 6 months of hire.

Complexity of Work:

  • Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of sterile techniques.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Work Experience:

  • Three years recent surgical experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
