MIT Lincoln Laboratory 33: Technical Staff - System Analyst in Lexington, Massachusetts

The Advanced Sensor Systems and Test Beds Group (Group 33) conducts exciting research in the development and demonstration of advanced sensor systems and command and control (C2) architectures for the U.S. Government. The Group incorporates emerging technologies in sensing concepts, autonomy, distributed systems, signal and data processing algorithms, and open architectures into system design concepts, enabling innovative solutions to complex problems. Major activities within the group include RF and optical system design and development, system modeling and simulation, signal processing algorithm development, experimental field testing and data analysis, and development of one-of-a-kind operational and experimental test assets. The group believes in collaborative research, and has expertise in multiple technical fields including radar systems analysis, adaptive sensor array and signal processing, RF and optical systems, HF radar and communications, integration and test, embedded programming, real-time software techniques, signal and detection estimation, Kalman filtering, CFAR detection, bistatic radar, real-time signal processing. Our technical staff members hold advanced degrees in electrical engineering, physics, applied mathematics, and computer science. The group also conducts local, national, and international field testing and data collection to prove new concepts for real-time prototype implementation, experiment execution, and systems analysis.

Job Description

Position description:

Group 33 is seeking a technical staff to contribute to developing of system architectures that implement advanced sensing concepts. These concepts may include centralized or distributed sensing, and will employ active RF, passive RF, or optical techniques. The candidate will be expected to contribute to quantifying how potential sensing concepts improve upon currently-fielded systems; to understanding how candidate technologies interact with targets and the environment; and/or to identifying whether sensor data can be managed by real-time processing and communications systems. The candidate will execute the work using quantitative tools that range from analytic “order of magnitude” calculations, to modeling and simulation using custom software toolkits. Candidates should have interest in developing software models of sensors, implementing optimization approaches to define efficient operating points, and providing analytics to quantify the performance of effective solutions. Finally, potential solutions must be clearly explained to sponsors and stakeholders, so a significant part of the position will include developing briefing materials, and presenting results in forums ranging from small meetings to large conferences.

The candidate will work with a diverse team of experienced analysts. Early career candidates are strongly encouraged to apply, and if selected, will work with experienced group members to learn about our mission areas and identify career growth paths.

Required expertise:

PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field. In lieu of a PhD, an MS in the above areas with a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience will be considered. Candidate must be able to obtain elevated level of security clearance.
