Description:

Summary

Responsible for the overall coordination, organization, implementation and evaluation of the Trauma Prevention/Outreach Program at St. Mary Medical Center. Identifies internal and external education and prevention opportunities for individuals of all age groups throughout the institution and community utilizing data from the trauma registry. Serves as the liaison for Emergency Medical Services, providing follow-up and coordinating educational opportunities.

Develops an annual plan for community trauma awareness programs and injury prevention initiatives based on community request and trauma registry data in compliance with Standard 8 of the Pennsylvania Trauma System Foundation’s Standards of Accreditation (PTSF).

Informs and discusses plans/schedule for trauma education, injury prevention and outreach activities with the Trauma Medical Director (TPMD)/Trauma Program Manager (TPM).

Ensures appropriate reply and follow up to requests for injury prevention presentations from schools, churches, community groups and organizations throughout the service area.

Actively participates as the liaison for the Trauma Program in local and regional injury prevention efforts, community agencies and other external organizations

Coordinates the development and availability of appropriate audiovisual aids, educational material and handouts for each presentation.

Reviews and evaluates all injury prevention presentations, educational material and handouts for accuracy, reliability and appropriateness.

Coordinates or provides public education presentations with activities, projects, and outreach relative to trauma awareness, the affects of trauma and injury prevention programs throughout the service region.

Coordinates the "Stop the Bleed" initiative. Schedules classes and identifies available trainers according to the STB requirements.

In conjunction with nursing education, coordinates the 3rd day of the trauma nurse course. Tracks compliance with continuing education for required personnel. Completes yearly PTSF education and certification compliance report.

Provides ad hoc education for multidisciplinary personnel regarding trauma topics identified using registry data and performance improvement initiatives as specified in Standard 7, of the PTSF Standards of Accreditation

Participates in the completion of the trauma electronic application for survey for assigned sections and participates during the PTSF site survey as required

Identifies opportunities and submits grants for trauma. injury prevention, and EMS funding. Monitors compliance and submits reports as specified in the grant

Attends 80 % of Multidisciplinary Trauma Committee Meetings

Attends internal and external educational programs including PTSF conference/meetings as assigned.

EMS Outreach

Liaison with emergency medical services for ED, trauma, stroke, and cardiac service lines. Identifies education needs and coordinates quarterly programs to address identified needs.

Provides timely follow-up to the transporting EMS agencies and the transferring hospital if applicable

Maintains an accurate and concurrent log of events and number pre-hospital personnel or community members served during each activity/program and provides quarterly reports to the multidisciplinary trauma committee.

Maintains the base command radio in the ED. Monitors compliance of command physicians credentials

Maintains knowledge and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Maintains office equipment in good working order. Assist with ordering of supplies, answering phone, and scheduling follow-up appointments.
