Lancaster General Health Patient Financial Services Customer Service Specialist I (40 hours/week) in Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: To provide excellent customer service to all of our customers. This position includes answering customer calls and questions, being responsible to collect on self-pay and self-pay residual accounts, completing research to answer and resolve more complicated customer questions and disputes.

HOURSS: Monday-Thursday 9:15-5:45pm and Friday's 8:15am-4:45pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Ability to research a patient’s account by reviewing the revenue cycle processes and working with each involved party (e.g. department, physician practice and/or patient’s insurance company) to help resolve disputes and answer complex questions.

  • Ability to independently complete tasks in a timely manner and manage assigned work queues to meet service level requirements and customer service benchmarks.

  • Informs Team Lead and/or Supervisor of all potential problems and issues immediately following the correct escalation process.

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of the revenue cycle, understanding both sides (hospital and professional) which includes insurance billing, and associated correspondence (e.g. EOB’s, electronic remittance, etc.) and is able to independently resolve issues.

  • Teaches peers and Customer Service Specialist I’s how to correctly resolve the more complex questions and disputes.

  • Creates/maintains customer service standard work processes for annual review and updates when there are system upgrades that affect the documented process.

  • Performs processes, including but not limited to: financial assistance, medical assistance application qualifications, insurance billing, payment plans, service recovery and patient correspondence.

  • Makes every effort to provide an extraordinary customer service experience to all customers, both internal and external.

  • Maintains knowledge in all aspects of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and is compliant in all collection efforts.

  • Maintains PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliance when taking payment information.

  • Maintain HIPAA compliance at all times when working with PHI

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

  • Processes and follows special accounts.

  • Assists with any special projects as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with three (2) years prior Customer Service, Billing and Account Resolution experience.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Microsoft Office experience.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to apply strong analytical qualities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree

  • Experience using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR), preferably Epic.
