Office of the Secretary of the Interior CIVILIAN PAY TECHNICIAN (BENEFITS) (OPEN CONTINUOUS) in Lakewood, Colorado

Summary This position is part of the Office of the Secretary of Interior, Interior Business Center (IBC), Human Resources Directorate (HRD), Payroll Operations Division (POD), Benefits Processing Branch. The incumbent will be responsible in providing retirement, health benefits, Military Service Deposit (MSD), and Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) pay processing services to multiple agencies serviced by the POD. The selectee must physically report to the duty station. This is not a 100% remote position. Responsibilities Interpret and apply customer specific policies and procedures to pay and benefits including: Retirement, Health Benefits, Thrift Savings Plan and Military Service Deposits. Identify errors and make necessary pay adjustments when assisting and working with HR offices. Research and analyze data to resolve difficult and sensitive payroll/personnel/benefits issues when processing with a potential of multiple error sources. Use automated payroll/personnel system/subsystem daily for input, output analysis and corrections. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship is required. Suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation. Direct Deposit of pay is required. Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt. Qualifications At the GS-05 level, you must meet one of the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is in or directly related to the line of work of this position and has equipped you with the knowledge and competencies to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position includes data processing in a subsystem which interfaces with a larger computer system, financial clerical duties such as verifying transaction amounts and resolving discrepancies in financial records; and answering phone calls or providing customer service in an office or retail setting. OR B. Four years of education above the high school level (i.e. 120 semester hours) or have a bachelor's degree. (Note: Applicants who select this response must provide transcripts as verification of their education). OR C. A combination of experience and education as defined above which equals 100%. For example, I have 6 months of experience and 3 years of education above the high school level.
