MCNEESE STATE UNIVERSITY invites applicants to apply for the position of Communications Officer 2.

This position is in University Police and will serve as a dispatcher working 12-hour rotating shifts. This position may be subject to overtime and is considered non-exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. This vacancy will be filled as a probational appointment.

Starting Hourly Pay Rate: $17.18

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, be collegial, be able to work with diverse groups of people, be able to work independently and as part of a team, have excellent attendance, be adaptable and flexible, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent changes.

No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.

The candidate for hire must undergo a comprehensive background check and is subject to drug screening at hire and on a random basis. This position may require a valid driver's license and a clear driving record if required to drive for university business.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

One year of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or clerical work.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute will substitute for the required experience on the basis of six months of training for six months of experience.

Completion of a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute will substitute for the required one year of experience.

College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of 15 semester hours for six months of experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

All persons appointed to this job will be required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification/re-certification requirement.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

NOTE:

Business or technical school training with less than completion will only be credited in six month increments. Similarly, college training will only be credited in 15 semester hour increments.

NOTE:

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

To receive and respond to requests from enforcement officers/agents through telecommunication equipment. Acts as the point of contact with the general public for emergency situations, accidents, complaints, etc.

Direct from a Communications Officer Supervisor or higher-level personnel.

Differs from Communications Officer 1 by the presence of experienced-level duties which require increased independence.

Differs from Communications Officer 3 by the absence of advanced-level duties which require complete independence.

Receive and respond to informational requests by officers/agents.

Receive, analyze, prioritize, and respond to general public complaints and inquiries with increased independence. Alert the nearest officer/agent, dispatch to location, and relay the information.

Search, enter, modify, and delete computerized records for vehicle registrations, driver licenses, other licenses, wanted felons, missing persons, unidentified persons or bodies, stolen property, etc. in the appropriate computer database.

Maintain proper record keeping and update desk log during communications.
