Youth Apprentice, FMT

Work Mode: Onsite

Location: Onsite at Kohler, WI

Hourly Pay: $15.00

Part-Time | Flexible 1st Shift | 15-35 hours per week

Opportunity

Perform a wide variety of assignments, including but not limited to the skills of the following trades: Concrete, conventional masonry, refractory masonry, rough and finish carpentry, painting, glazing and roofing assignments. Required to construct and repair wood structures, custom cabinetry and equipment, to perform basic and advanced masonry, painting and glazing and roofing skills as required.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Study work assignments and work from drawings and sketches.

  • Repair and/or install doors, windows, and wood floors.

  • Construct pallets and crates for shipping and interplant use.

  • Fabricate jigs and fixtures.

  • Build and/or remodel offices as required.

  • Build, repair and install cabinets as required.

  • Construct stands for company advertising or publicity displays.

  • Hang pictures and repair frames, repair wood office chairs.

  • Proficiently and safely operate a wide variety of tools and equipment, e.g. table, band, cut-off, radial and skill saws, jointer, planer, pneumatic nailer, electric drill, grinders, etc.

  • Be capable of using Computerized Maintenance Management software to create work notifications, look-up, and order parts, print work orders, and enter time confirmations.

  • Install acoustical (suspended) ceilings.

  • Install vinyl floor tile.

  • Install tape and finish sand all drywall installations (ready for painting).

  • Design and build flow process systems using Textube and extruded aluminum products.

  • Work with various polyethylene and UHMW products.

  • Order materials on SAP work orders (MS numbers only, non-stock orders procured by supervision) as needed for jobs assigned.

  • Ensure the quality required in each job performed.

  • Repair or replace all types of concrete and/or bricks.

  • Perform all concrete construction jobs in the plant as assigned.

  • Repair / rebuild furnace doors for the Enamel Shop and ATL.

  • Repair / rebuild smelter, kiln, and furnace refractory linings in all divisions as required

  • Apply various types of concrete patch and repair materials.

  • Repair/replace ceramic tile for glass production conveyance systems.

  • Mix and apply all types of paints using spray systems, roller or brush.

  • Color match paint using established paint formulas or color matches by eye.

  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, including sandblasting equipment, for surface preparations.

  • Safely erect and use ladders, scaffolding and planking for painting large structures or buildings.

  • Clean, adjust and maintain all types of painting equipment.

  • Disassemble and reassemble items to be painted as needed.

  • Cut and install glazing materials using glass cutter or table saw.

  • Perform preventative maintenance functions related to all types of building roof systems.

  • Repair roof flashing and caulk as required.

  • Clean roof surfaces of dirt, debris, water, ice and snow as required.

Miscellaneous: (All Functions):

  • Maintain work area: e.g., clean-up and keep materials and equipment in clean working condition, clean as required and at the end of each shift.

  • Assist co-workers as required.

  • Perform minor maintenance on shop equipment and report abnormalities.

  • Take initiative to address all process and equipment malfunctions and problems.

  • Maintain knowledge of and follow all safety regulations in effect.

  • Engage in learning activity to upgrade skill sets, both interpersonal and technical.

  • Acknowledge responsibility to the global community (cultural, economic, environmental and political)

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Applies to all Youth Apprentices.

  • Required to take technical skills test, to evaluate current knowledge of facilities maintenance.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited high school technical education program, with an emphasis in facilities maintenance, working towards graduation.

  • Working Conditions

  • Heavy industrial environment, including, but not limited to exposure to heat, cold, dust, dirt, coolants, oils, noise, heights and confined spaces.

Physical Requirements

  • Bending, lifting, and pushing weights of up to 40 pounds or more
