Summary

This position is responsible for a variety of professional level engineering or scientific responsibilities. Uses advanced knowledge of engineering or scientific discipline, processes, and tools to complete and ensure compliance of various project subtasks. Leads efforts of internal stakeholders and team members, and interacts with external customers, to facilitate the completion of products to customer specifications. Helps to refine and improve engineering processes. Acts as a mentor to lower-level Engineers. Hands on experience with a wide variety of analytical instruments, with a strong emphasis on ICP, ICP-MS, or Glow Discharge Mass Spectrometry.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • This position requires a strong desire to perform hands-on analytical analyses and will be responsible for assisting other scientists and technicians with a variety of day-to-day recurring tasks.

  • Significant contributor to the completion of organizational projects and goals. Able to assess the linkages between project goals and organizational goals, and drives deliverables to meet both project and organizational goals.

  • Communicates technical information of a moderate to complex level specific to segment/area of responsibility, in timely, constructive manner to stakeholders. Can act as an ambassador (professional, accurate, technically reliable) for the organization to leadership and customers.

  • Capable of contributing to negotiations with external parties to drive agreements on concepts, practices, processes, or approach. Listens openly, with an focus on learning and customer satisfaction, and leverages areas of expertise to influence internal/external stakeholder direction. Presents effectively to varied audiences.

  • Communicates technical information competently and can respond to multiple technical questions beyond surface. Demonstrates continued growth in terms of presence and agility during presentations. Serves as advisor/mentor in areas of product or process expertise to less experienced

  • Provides technical guidance and project leadership on moderate to complex analytical products in a clear, comprehensible manner to multiple levels of stakeholders.

  • Establishes and applies methodology to new concepts and recommends enhancements to advance projects and processes. Identifies and proposes technical improvements using engineering knowledge and principals. Scientist: Participates in establishing operating procedures on new products and components. Plans and performs testing and development programs and uses advanced statistical and scientific methods to address and resolve technical problems. Designs and/or develops unique equipment or special instruments to meet specific requirements.

  • Develops solutions to complex problems. May lead teams in problem-solving efforts.

  • Uses advanced statistical and scientific methods to address and resolve engineering and production problems.

  • Responsible for planning and executing project subtasks in order to meet customer specifications (designing, testing, etc). May perform reviews of overall project status and risks and create and execute plans for project status improvements.

  • May provide direction to other employees to ensure project and product compliance. Note that this competency is not focused exclusively on product roles; an engineering or scientific project scope may deal primarily with product, processing, testing or test equipment, analysis, or materials; or ongoing production support of this type of workscope.

You Must Have

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent.

  • Four years of relevant experience.

  • Ability to travel as determined by the needs of the business.

  • Ability to work on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business.

  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function of this job.

  • United States Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations).

We Value

  • An advanced degree, MS or PhD in Chemistry, Physics or Chemical Engineering.

  • Six (6) or more years of experience with metal dissolution, geochemistry, Glow Discharge Mass Spectrometry, and/or ICP technique.

  • Strong method development skills.

  • Strong dissolution chemistry knowledge in metals and materials.

  • A broad knowledge of manufacturing or quality processes and techniques.

  • Ability to apply advanced design, development, evaluation, and quality control techniques to highly complex engineering concepts and projects.

  • Ability to work without supervision, with latitude for independent action and decision making.

  • Ability to provide technical guidance, project management, consultative services, and innovative solutions.
