Kalamazoo County Government Juvenile Home Nurse in Kalamazoo, Michigan

GENERAL SUMMARY

 The purpose of this job is to provide medical and nursing services to Juvenile Home residents, including but not limited to immunizations, infectious disease testing, and administering medications. Performs assessments, completes referrals, and maintains documentation. Performs care coordination and health education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs case management duties such as ongoing patient assessment of Juvenile Home residents and coordinating services with residents and vendors. Administers immunizations.
  • Maintains documentation of assessments, collaborates with staff and family to promote resident health needs, and facilitates continuum of care in preparation for the youth's return home.
  • Coordinates referrals for outpatient appointments, arranges transportation with probation officers, and documents completion of the appointments.
  • Evaluate preventative healthcare needs of Juvenile Home residents and perform baseline physical exams within 7 days of admission.
  • Maintains medical inventory and supplies; manages and secures resident medications; plans medication distribution schedule; maintains medication documentation; and monitors patients' responses to medications. Communicates concerns and changes needed to prescribing physicians.
  • Conducts staff training and education, including but not limited to training in CPR/AED/First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens. Performs annual Tuberculosis testing on all staff and maintains testing and training records. Updates Juvenile Home infection control policies/education as the local health department and the CDC recommend.
  • Coordinates and provides health/hygiene educational opportunities for Juvenile Home residents to promote positive health behaviors.
  • Performs related work as required.

     

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing
  • 3 to 5 years of related work experience in nursing

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan

Full-time Juvenile Home Nurse hired between 3-1-2024 and 12-31-2024 will be eligible to receive 4 quarterly payments of $2,000.00. Max $8,000.00 after one year.

Additional criteria to qualify for an Incentive Payment:

                The Full Time Nurse must complete 500 hours each quarter to qualify.
