BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The M RM SUBSTATION & METER METER Department of the P SUBSTATION & METER Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: NON-EXEMPT)

JOB FUNCTION:

Installs and tests meters and equipment for self-contained meter installations. Performs routine inspecting, testing, and servicing of all types of meters and metering equipment in the field or shop.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

FUNDAMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• As a Meter Electrician at the maximum level, performs the following duties. As a Meter Electrician at lower levels, performs the following duties under direction or direct supervision in accordance with the various stages of training:

• Installs, wires, removes, and tests all types of watthour meters, watthour demand meters and metering equipment for self-contained single phase or polyphase meters and metering equipment.

• Tests and repairs all types of watthour meters, watthour demand meters and metering equipment.

• Helps Meter Electricians of higher classification on instrument transformer meter installations.

• Uses electrical standard instruments such as ammeter, voltmeter, wattmeter, rotating standard, power factor or phase meter, phase sequence indicators, etc.

• Reads all types of meters and collects data on all types of recording meters.

• May direct the work of personnel of lower classifications assigned on any or all of the above operations.

• Receives training in checking and calibrating all secondary standards used in the shop or field test; installing, removing and testing primary meter installations.

• May be required to do meter records work including transaction edit report.

• Assists Operations Division with trouble calls in the field.

• Checks and resets low voltage (600v and below) circuit breakers and replaces low voltage (600v and below) fuses.

  OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs similar and incidental duties as required.

• Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.

  BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to identify and distinguish different colors and color hues required.

• Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.

• Must be able to life and carry instrument transformers.

• Must pass Company Written Job Knowledge Test and Job Performance Test.

• Graduate of Meter Electrician Apprentice Program or equivalent training and experience.
