St. Bernard's Medical Center LPN - IM/OSTEOPATHIC RESIDENCY PROGRAM in JONESBORO, Arkansas

  • JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Education

  • Graduate of a School of Practical Nursing. Completion of LPNII course.

  • Experience

  • Two (2) years nursing experience, with one-year practice following completion of LPN II course. One (1) year experience must be a hospital setting in a medical-surgical environment. Knowledge and Abilities: Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to and communicate with primarily the geriatric population, and to a lesser degree the pediatric and adult populations. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Able to assess data reflecting the patients’ status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs.

  • Involves being inside and outside. Exposure to temperatures 32 degrees and less and 100 degrees or more, fumes, dust, and noise. Hearing within normal range. Frequent sitting, stooping, standing, walking, bending, pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds, carrying up to 35 pounds, and lifting up to 100 pounds.

  • JOB SUMMARY

  • Performs selected nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse.

  • According to state law and the standards of this agency, the Home Health LPN is limited in the following area. LPNs can make visits requiring routine skilled care, such as:

  • Dressing changes

  • Finger stick blood sugars (FSBS)

  • Urinary catheter insertions

  • Venipunctures for laboratory specimens

  • Injections by IM or SQ, as permitted by policy

  • Other routine nursing tasks

  • IV antibiotic therapy

  • De-access central lines

  • IV hydration

  • Central line maintenance/flushing & site care

  • Simple assessments (collect assessment data)

  • PEG

  • NG tubes

  • LPNs may not:

  • Unilateral changes in the Plan of Care- call M.D.; write orders; change care plan

  • Admission visit-initial comprehensive assessment

  • Recertification visit

  • Resume visit

  • High risk IV therapy (Dobumine, TPN, Chemotherapy)

  • Access Porta cath

  • 1st dose antibiotics

  • Patient Care Technician personal care evaluation (every 14 days)

  • Patient Care Technician supervisory visits (every 100 hours)

  • Other duties identified by supervisory staff

  • OASIS assessment

  • Discharge visits

  • Assess/Manage Epidural Infustion

  • Complex assessment

  • Blood drawn from central venous access
